I just took a nap. For 5 hours. I am exhausted right now. More so than I was before it.

Does this happen to you at all?

12. An Adult Cat
An adult cat sleeps about 18 hours a day. More, if they're lazy.

17. lol
I saw a comic one time complaining because his vet said his cat needed to "take it easy". He said if his cat took it any easier he would have to get it stuffed. :o

2. yes usually feel a little dopey
but I love naps and with a kid, you really need them. Don't think I've ever had a 5 hour one though. I like the 20 minute ones.

3. There is some evidemce, though I have no sources to cite

that says a nap is ideally 20 to 24 minutes. Beyond that the "normal" sleep cycle kicks in. When you break the sleep cycle at an unusual point, you will most likely be groggy.

11. Caffeine messes up sleep patterns
If your sleep cycle is all messed up, the standard suggestions I seen from doctors is to dump the caffeine for a few days, get your pattern corrected, then go back to it.

6. yep me
i don't take naps anymore for this reason. the duration of the nap doesn't appear to alter this effect either.
could be five mintues or an hour etc, i am worhtless aftwerwards.

i've often wondered if it might not have to do with the fact that i am a very heavy sleeper...

7. actually, i really love a 3-second nap
no kidding, after fighting to stay awake, head bobbing and all, sometimes merely the act of surrendering to the sleep is all it takes.

i can wake up moments later and feel quite refreshed. then i'm good to go. for at least another 10 minutes.

don't tell mrs. unblock!

JOKE! it's all just a joke, go back to your regularly scheduled program....

8. If you are more tired AFTER you sleep, you need
to look into sleep problems. You may be having symptoms of restless leg syndrome, teeth grinding, or even sleep apnea, especially if your sleepiness is the rule, rather than the exception. If you need naps and are still tired, somthing is not right.

9. Depends on what your system is adjusted to
My situation is complicated by a brain injury, so you have to throw out the textbooks.

I can't get more than 4-5 hours sleep maximum, and it's usually a lot less than that, so I pretty much can't function very well for more that a half-day without getting some more sleep in the day.

There's a lot of sleep studies out there that suggest people function better for longer periods of time with multiple shorter sleep periods in a day.

10. Regular Sleep
You need regular sleep, not naps here and there. I'm not an expert, but I feel better when I have a bedtime and an wakeup time. If I'm off my regular schedule, I'm dragging myself around.

Having said that, let me admit that I love a 2-hour nap in the late afternoon.

14. Everytime I take daytime naps
They are accompanied by very bizarre dreams/nightmares and drooling on myself, neither of which is common during my night-time sleep. I've always wondered about the reasons for such a syndrome.

Often, even following a 3-hour nap, I do feel more tired but later in the evening I can feel a "second wind" that would not have kicked in without the nap.

15. You slept too much
Naps are suppose to be quick like no more than a half hour.
Your five hour "nap" was more than I had for my entire sleep last night.

Try a good 15-20 min. power nap, it'll do the trick.

takes too long to get to sleep to just be asleep for a little bit.
