WORLD CUP: Paul the Octopus gets death threats.
Edited on Thu Jul-08-10 10:52 AM by denem
Washington Post

BERLIN (Reuters Life!) - Some Germans are calling for a public roasting of the oracle octopus who correctly picked the winner of all six of their national soccer team's World Cup matches -- including a bitter defeat to Spain on Wednesday,...

German newspapers and websites were filled with suggestions of what to do with Paul -- most involved cooking and eating him.

"Throw him in the frying pan," wrote the Berliner Kurier newspaper in a popular sentiment echoed by Die Welt, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, the Hamburger Abendblatt and other newspapers...

Despite the antipathy toward Paul, Sea Life spokeswoman Tanja Munzig said Paul has a bright future at his home in Oberhausen. "Nothing bad will happen to Paul," she said.

Stay tuned. Paul's predictions for Germany-Uruguay and The Final will be broadcast live in Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.

1. How does he predict the games?
Any ideas on what is the secret of his success?

2. Pot Luck :)
Paul has picked Germany 4 times, other teams twice. No idea about his Serbia pick though.

4. The put two boxes of food in his tank
One with a German flag on it, the other with the flag of the country they are facing.

Each time, the octopus picked the box with the winning flag - which included Serbia and Spain.

5. If you're asking about the mechanism, they put food in two identical boxes
each one emblazoned by a country's flag.

6. Another use for Paul the Octupus
Keep him alive until hockey season starts. Then ship him to Detroit, MI and someone will throw him on the ice

7. That's fine so long as he then skitters onto the opposing goalie's face.
