You know you've been out in the woods too long when... |
|
I'll start.
When you know which animals have been on your property by their scat. Not only do you know the difference between dog poop and coyote poop, you can identify the dog in the neighborhood who pooped in your yard.
Apparently I need a life. :-)

5. I have two scat-eating dogs. They love deer poop. Life in the wilds. |
|
They don't like bear scat - makes 'em nervous, I think. I don't know where the panther poops, but that would really freak-out Nick-Nick (after his encounter with the panther in November).

7. Ran into that last year. |
|
Not only the poop but the paw prints. No one believes me that there would be a cougar in these parts, but I looked it up in the fish and wildlife site and this is part of their range. Didn't return this year but I think it's staying way back up in the hills following the deer.

people all over this area have reported cougar sightings. I've seen Bears and moose, maybe someday I'll see the cougar.

9. Cougars don't come out in the open that much. |
|
That's why they are called "ghosts". You know when they are around when you see the signs or hear them in the middle of the night, but you seldom see them. If they get desparate though they will come out in the open and start picking off pets and small children.

6. I'm never out in the woods too long. |
|
I do recognize scat as well as tracks, even after 3 years of living in town.
I miss living out in the isolated desert. Someday, I'll be there again!
