Dear people of the internet Offence and Offense are two different words...
Edited on Fri Jul-16-10 10:52 AM by SunnySong
one is used for example when you break a law... "he committed an offence"

The other is used commonly in sports and war... "tonight we go on the offense" "The offense takes the field."

They are two separate words that mean different things...

And it is not racist, sexiest or anti-American to point this out in an interoffice memo proofing a brochure.

And don't give me that but we are American we don't know any better crap... read a fucking book people.

Of note this is not directed at anyone on DU, but a simple vent to an illiterate general manager who mangles apostrophes, thinks ALLUSION and ILLUSION are the same fucking word and she sends memos with numbers instead of words like she was fucking Prince.

ON DOUBLE EDIT IN CAPITALS... ONCE AGAIN I WAS UNCLEAR... THE BROCHURE SAID "WE WILL HELP YOU GET A GREAT BUSINESS OFFENCE"

1. WTF
are you talking about? "Offense" and "offence" are two different spellings of the SAME WORD.

Oh... this is a joke, right?

2. No, they're really interchangeable, with 'offence' being chiefly British use
and 'offense' British and American.

6. Different spellings for the same word, sorry
In the UK, they always use the c. Just like they spell color, colour, honor, honour...etc.

It is just a different spelling, but not incorrect.

8. Sorry, no. "Offence" is how the British spell "offense."
