I bought a fat-lady swimsuit today.
I put it off all summer because the thought of my in a bathing suit was too much to handle. But it's hot, dammit! I live in the Northeast and it's never been this hot for so long before, so I had to break down and buy one. It has a skirt almost down to my knees, and it rates a 10 on the ugly scale. There's a public swimming pool across the street from my house, so I'll just wrap a big towel around myself and run across.

Anybody else live in bathing suit hell?

19. There are lots of two piece suits that cover as much as a one piece, and are more comfortable.
No more taking the whole thing off just to go to the bathroom.

4. I don't swim any more because of bathing suits.
I just can't stand the thought of wearing one anywhere I could be observed by any sentient being.

If I went swimming I would run the risk of being harpooned. And if I were to lie on the beach getting a little sun the Greenpeace people would try to drag me back in the water.

I have my own gravitational field.

5. This site has very stylish swimsuits..
and if you look at the clearance section they're not too high. I think for the most part all women are in bathing suit hell, for one reason or another. When I was wearing a size 6 I still didn't feel comfortable in a bathing suit, cuz I was/am large on top and was always self conscience.

7. I finally bought one for myself this week.
I've lost weight, though, and my old suit was too loose on me. I don't like being this undressed, so I feel your pain. Plus, I'm white as rice. Ugh.

You won't be the only one that feels that way at the pool. Stay cool. It's the most important thing.

11. The last year I have felt incredibly self conscious, and it is nice to meet others here who
feel the same.

I don't mean it is good others feel the same way, just that it is reassuring I'm not the only one.

14. Yes
I was in a teeny weeny bikini until almost 40. Took it for granted, I did. Then I went one piece, which was still OK. Come 52 and it's all over now. Has been for about five years. I disgust myself, but I'm not going to stay off the beach. Just do the best I can with the suit and try not to think about it.

17. I have a one piece...
Because that is what makes *me* comfortable. I could care less what anyone thinks of me in a swimsuit. I'm 5'5", fish-belly white (translucent more like), and very plus sized. If I cared what others thought, I might never leave my house. I don't know if it's false bravado or what, but truly, I don't give a rat's a**. Let em stare. Just be comfortable.

16. I've come to the conclusion that at my age
Edited on Thu Jul-29-10 09:38 PM by lunatica
I'm 62. At my age no one gives a fuck what I look like. In the eyes of the youth we are old. Just plain old. So just try to look like a respectable grandma and everyone will be happy with you. No one cares. Really. No one. They're too busy looking at the young girls who look sexy. You might as well be invisible.

Don't show too much 'cause that'll gross them out, but definitely stay cool. Besides, when older ladies see you looking fresh and chick in your old lady swimsuit they'll come out too.

18. Eddie Bauer has great two piece suits that are board shorts on the bottom and tanks on the top.
Edited on Thu Jul-29-10 11:59 PM by grace0418
They cover as much or more than the skirted suits, and look less frumpy (IMHO). Also, they don't float around your waist in the water like the skirts do. I was so glad to find this. I was getting so sick of those skirted suits.

It was great on our trip to Hawaii because most of the time I just wore my suit with a t-shirt over the top. I would have never walked around in a skirted suit like that. Plus, it has a zippered pocket to hold essentials (that can get wet) while you swim. Best swimsuit purchase I ever made.

Here's a link to the shorts. http://tinyurl.com/39kbza3

22. aren't all bathing suits hell?
even when I dropped a ton of weight, I had a hard time finding one. Finally found one that I could buy one in separate pieces so I could get a bigger size for the top and a smaller for the bottom (lost 110 lbs and none of it came out of my breasts), but then there was the issue that there exists no swimsuit w/ a decent bra.

No way would I put on a swimming suit. I can't remember when I last had a waist. But fat ladies get hot, too. I'm contemplating wearing something sleeveless.

27. it should not be that way--but it is.
I hate how i look

Really really bad self image--but it should not stop me from going to a beach or a pool.

Funny-I will wear virtually any political shirt there is--no matter how unpopular the view is in
this conservative area--and i do not care.....

but ask me to go to the pool?????

sad just sad

31. Is it wrong for a guy to wish he had a swimsuit body?
I do. Granted, I'd never wear a Speedo - I have no desire to inflict that on the public. But I do wish that one of these days I can get my body to the degree that I feel comfortable walking on the beach without hiding my belly under a T-shirt.

The man-boobs are another issue. I might need the shirt anyway, but a little less in the tummy department is something I need to work on. All I know is that those P90X ads look rather tempting, whether the program actually works or not.
