Bar Patrons Dismayed By Sight Of Band Setting Up

ATLANTA—Patrons of Valentine's Tavern were visibly crestfallen Tuesday when their pleasant evening of drinking and conversing with friends was suddenly derailed by the sight of a few people plugging in instruments. "Ah, Christ," bar-goer Nick Manikat said as a stand-up bass was rolled onto the stage. "They have live music here?" According to patrons who had just ordered a round and did not have time to finish their drinks before the band's set began, they were going to be stuck there for at least 15 or 20 fucking minutes

1. Yeah - I hated playing for a bunch of drunks - they all think they are brilliantly
funny and intelligent, right until they fall over or puke.

I miss playing in a band, but I really don't miss the audience at all...you brought a lot of it back to me, including one gig where the "dressing room" was the mens toilet, which had overflowed, leaving an inch or so of water - and bodily products-over the entire floor...
Show business!

thanks - good luck.

5. Yeah, I did it off and on for almost 20 years, too...I still think I miss it at times,
then at times, I'm glad to be out of it.

7. I've thought about bailing out
but as long as I need a part time job on the weekends, I'd rather do that than deliver pizza or something like that. I actually do make some money at it so I just keep on keepin' on :)

8. Besides, delivering pizza sucks even worse-my wife did that for a
while before we met-she was always worried about being robbed and is still enraged about the nickel tip she got once...

Besides, everybody knows musicians get laid a lot...

Have a great weekend...If I still had the fingers, I'd probably do it again anyway...

11. I feel that way when it's a place I don't expect to have live music, and wasn't looking for some.
I also equally going some place to hear a band or to enjoy the live music, and have to suffer with a bunch of idiots who won't shut up. Yeah, even in bars - I know I shouldn't, but as a performer myself, I feel that if someone is on stage they should be paid attention to.

That's one thing that bugs me about bands in restaurants - even if it's a light jazz or bluegrass or whatever band. I'm there to eat and enjoy table fellowship, not eat silently without talking to my table mates because the music's too loud or too good.

14. I know this is a true story because...

in the story the bass was an upright. It was probably some godless and greasy rockabilly band.

Seriously, I have seen bar patrons walk in and look at my band setting up, make some judgments about our age, tattoos, clothes (nothing ultra-baggy and hanging low), hairstyles, our equipment (old guitars, nothing new, fuscia colored or pointy-shaped) and turn around and walk out before I ever plucked a note.

Music, for most folks, is background noise for the daily drudgery of wage slavery. The worst of them despise live bands. The loud noise fucks with their drinking and socializing.
