LOL - just found a letter to Shrubbie that I wrote in July of 2001.

I'm pretty sure I never sent it as it, but edited it down to be more professional (and fix the typos). But this is my preferred version:

Mr. President:

I write to inform you of my strong opposition to your intended plan to appoint Mary Sheila Gall to be Commissioner of the Consumer Product safety Commission. I believe that if you look at her record with clear eyes, and not your usual myopic lens of kowtowing to the wishes of your father’s cabal, you will see that her record in her past ten years with the commission shows utter disrespect for the American Consumer’s safety, and a too ready willingness to appease and overlook corporate entities who prefer children be killed by their products than to be required to make safe products ion the name of profit. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is too important of an organization – important in terms of ensuring that the products which we Americans buy are safe, reliable, and will not kill us through faulty, shoddy, cheap, or dangerous construction – to be left in the hands of someone who would just as soon decommission the CPSC and allow corporations to sell us whatever dangerous, child-killing devices they choose.

Your nomination of someone who shows utter disregard for the mission of the organization to which you nominate her is irresponsible. Further, because of the nature of what this commission manages, your nomination is actually dangerous, an act that will likely result in the deaths of thousands, if not tens of thousands, of the Americans you swore to protect on January 21 of this year.

I would hope that you rescind this nomination, and nominate someone who believes that I, and 260 million others, are worth protecting. I would also hope that in the future you refrain from making appointments based on your political agenda, and begin to appoint people who are qualified for the positions you appoint them.

Also interesting to see that here, 6 months into his presidency, I offered the hope that he'd appoint people who are qualified. I don't think he did that once in his 8 years.

Clearly I was barking up a dead tree.
