American Idol sucks

I don't get the great fascination with this show. It's boring.

We had something very similar to this at the pub I used to go to. They called it "Amatuer Singing Night" and it was little more than glorified Karaoke. That's exactly what A.I. is. A bunch of people with a moderate amount of singing talent competing to sing songs that will be written for them by somebody else.

If anyone disagrees with my analysis I'd love to know why.

It's not talent; they're all competing to be the next voice in elevator music. :eyes:

I won't knock people singing others' songs. Tina Turner started out that way, and turned other peoples' songs into her own with the power of her presentation. "Proud Mary" being a top notch example, but she did her own music too. Now SHE has real talent. Pity Ike was a degenerate ass toward her, they were great as a musical duo...

6. It's bad alright but

like a train wreck sometimes I just can't look away. They already have in mind exactly what they want, someone who fits into a pre-fabricated little mold and anyone whose different doesn't make it. :argh:

7. I agree that the show is boring, but...

I don't agree that all of the singing talent is mediocre.

I doubt you'd be likely to find a Clay Aiken or a Kelly Clarkson down at your local Karaoke bar. There's a couple of people this year who are also extremely talented.

Not my style of music, though. I'd like to also add in their defense that these kids seem like decent people, unlike the Britney, Jessica, Justin's of the world who not only lack talent, but you know you wouldn't want to spend five minutes around them.

I've judged many, many karaoke contests, and in the process have heard singers who could easily make Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkston look like fools..

It's hard to explain other than it helps the record companies get the next phenom. I still think it's the material that's lacking more than the singing.

9. I'm no fan of the show

Although I am a fan of Kelly Clarkson, and to a lesser extent Clay Aiken.

This year, the only guy I know is William Hung.

His special did little more than mock him! :( He's NOT TALENTED! And the fact that people have been watching him supports the "train wreck" theory. We just can't look away from how bad it is.

What is it with him? Do people like to watch him just to make fun of him or what?

he is being made into a joke and I don't think he even realizes it. I think it is all pretty sick using a guy whose music is so awful and who is so naive he is unaware of it.

Unfortunately, I haven't been a fan of any of the albums. Kelly's is probably best, but I still think there's better pop out there.

Perhaps wish they could, and perhaps get a vicarious thrill of seeing some ordinary joe like themselves get a shot at the title.
