World's dumbest sport has a fatality |
|
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/07/world-sauna-championships_n_674582.htmlA Russian finalist at the World Sauna Championships in Finland died Saturday and the event was suspended, according to the organizers, the AP reported.
Both of the events finalists -- Russia's Vladimir Ladyzhensky and Finland's Timo Kaukonen -- were rushed to the hospital after collapsing during the competition, in which contestants are made to endure temperatures of 230 degrees Fahrenheit (110 degrees Celsius) for as long as they can. Ladyzhensky later died.note: graphic photos at bottom of link.

1. Also there's a new world's dumbest sport, since they won't be repeating that one |
|
No idea what the new "champion" is, though..

2. Yeah, what happens next year? |
|
bet they add a nut kicking portion to the contest. You know, how long can you stay in the sauna while someone kicks you in the nuts?

4. That sounds like one of those sports where, if you die at it, you're automatically the champion |
|
Not that there's a lot of "those" sports

7. Good grief. I lost a friend last year because he fell asleep in a suana. |
|
That's not a dumb sport, it's a stupid stunt.

9. A friend of mine was once working on, I swear, a "Hot Tub Hammock." |
|
So you could, you know, have a few beers and then fall asleep in a nice warm tub. While entangled in a net.
Such things never occurred to him.

This guy was a dentist, so you'd think he'd have had enough understanding of the human body not to (Seinfeld "anti-dentite" episode notwithstanding). He had a few beers at the pool, then climbed in his sauna and fell asleep.
Yeah, a sauna hammock would have been a brilliant invention. Even more brilliant would have been the agent who insured him against product liability, eh?

8. I wouldn't say it's the dumbest sport |
|
Although it's certainly worth an honorable mention. Kinda silly, but a good read anyway: http://sasthamcotta.wordpress.com/2008/08/25/top-10-most-dangerous-sports-in-the-world/
