Best cover song done acoustically.
Edited on Mon Aug-09-10 08:40 PM by Glassunion
Requirements: song must have been originally an electric song. Original song must have kicked ass.

My vote.
Rodrigo y Gabriela / Metallica's Orion

1. Jose Feliciano-Light my Fire
I'm a huge Doors fan and was from the start as a teenager, and I didn't appreciate how good this was initially, but this version ,I eventually realized, is exceptional.

5. Fields of Gold
Eva Cassidy~ Fields of Gold (I suggest that you click off the little red caption button the first time you listen, because reading while listening is distracting)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BtJbOPjPfQ&feature=related

original by Sting~ not a very amped up song, but more 'produced' than Eva's cover.

Kurt Cobain/ Nirvana for The Man Who Sold the World.

Amplified acoustic, but acoustic nonetheless.

(on edit) I know Dylan's was acoustic, but I was introduced to it (and
still remember it best and most fondly -- before THIS version came out)
as an electric fireball from Hendrix.

10. Nothing wrong with a cover of a cover. In fact Dylan likes Jimmy's version better.
How this one? This would be 2 on my list. Jimmy wrote it, Stevie rewrote it, and Monte rewrote the rewrite.

By the way, my new favorite "All Along the Watchtower" is The Dave Matthews Band --
in particular their version from Folsom Field. It's absolutely EVERYTHING that an
encore finisher should be:

We would do a couple of covers throught the evening. We always did Watchtower a la DMB. His version is just so... Perfect.

21. Our band did three covers...
.
.
.
.
.
...John Hiatt's "Thing Called Love", Suzanne Vega's "Neighborhood Girls",
and one other I can't remember.
.
.
.
.
After we split up, our drummer told me that he had always wanted me to
sing Zappa's "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?"
.
.
.
.
I was kinda actually pissed at him that he didn't suggest that BEFORE we
split up.
.
.
.
.
We WERE kinda eclectic -- we used to ask our audiences if THEY could figure
out what our "style" or genre was.
.
.
.
.
We just knew that we loved what we did -- and the audiences seemed to match
that feeling.
.
.
.
.
Some nights, we would pass out percussion instruments to the crowd (maracas,
claves, fish, tambourines, etc.)... and not dimestore versions, either --
professional instruments.
.
We NEVER had anybody walk off with one. At the end of the night, we ALWAYS
got them back.
.
.
.
.
We had very cool crowds.
.
.
.

That's where I heard them first.

4.38 seconds later I bought both of their albums off iTunes. Both albums are insane. They also do a sick ass cover of Stairway.

There used to be video from Storefront Hitchcock on YouTube of his acoustic version which is possibly even better than the original. It's just RH and guitar and it's a brilliant performance. You'll just have to take me word for it, alas. Or see the whole movie.

17. Damn. *snif* It must be dusty in here. *snif* I must have something in my eye.
That one gets me every time. Notonly did he remake it. He redefined the meaning of it. It's different when you hear that song through a set of eyes that have 10 million miles behind them. The original and his version are two completely different songs.

I love both of Clapton's versions of the song, but there's just something about the acoustic one that makes it the best.
