Either I'm not being as funny as I thought I was (which is always a distinct possibility) or else some of these hit too close to the mark. I actually meant for this post to give at least a mild chuckle.. Can't win 'em all, I guess.

Posting on DU helps me maintain my writing chops. I make a commitment to write every day.

I usually spel real gud and dont make a lot of many grammerical mistakes either!

What I really hate about this part of the world:

1. Everyone assumes you're Christian, and a particular flavor of Protestant, at that.

2. if you are not a Christian, there must be something wrong with you.

3. And therefore you must be saved from your lack of belief. Preferably by telling you you're going to hell. This does not make them friends. They do not understand this.

4. Beyond that, they are incurious and uneducated. Ignorant and proud of it. Tell them the facts, correct them, and they DO NOT LISTEN. Their brains short out.

Even if they are somewhat educated, they think they are morally superior to non-Christians.

I can't handle it and can't find any friends. Even at the local book club I heard comments about how they had more compassion than secular humanists, at which point DH leaned over and said "Isn't it time for us to get up and leave?".

We didn't. We were desperate for non-fundy companionship. One guy there, who was from India, told my hubby how wonderful Islam was because the Koran sez you had to treat all your wives equally and it was OK for a slave to keep his own earnings. Hubby was not impressed.

Everyone seems to spend their time thinking about Jeebus and praying and going to church Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night, instead of pursuing independent thought.

I'm sick of hearing about Christianity and want nothing to do with it.

But these people have had it beaten into them and apparently are happy with it.
