1. Yikes!
That happened to me too, and yes it is unnerving so say the least. As you know, just open up doors and/or windows, and the bat will eventually find it's way out.

But, I'd be concerned how it got in. Hopefully this is a one-time occurrence.

Sorry. That probably didn't help.

Here's a  instead. Now just lay back down and think about your most favorite thing or memory. You are getting very sleepy....

10. For a while, bats regularly popped up inside my house. I finally
guessed they were napping in the cap over the chimney pipe and then falling down the pipe when they dropped to launch, so I put some steel mesh over the top of the pipe. I haven't seen any in about a decade, so maybe my guess was right

11. of all the critters that have made it in this house I can't recall a bat
although we had a colony in the barn and they are definitely around
I like seeing them and they do good work, but I could imagine the havoc if one got in and the cats were after it!

14. Fresh air and darkness...
I had one hit me in the face once after falling asleep in the living room.

They head for fresh air and darkness when trapped, so turn on some lights and open a window and they will leave.

16. Wasn't fun!
Had to find a way to 'escort' it OUT! Opened 3 doors, and 'batted' it out with broom. Fortunately avoided contact with MOI! Thinking of taking a nap now, as it woke me at about 5:30 A.M!

15. When it comes back, club it...then you'll have to clean it..
Once the meat is ready...you should rub in some garlic, crushed basil and a little red pepper...

Add seasoned bat meat to a pot with 2 small cans chicken broth. Add baby carrots, onion slices, celery and one can sliced/peeled tomatoes. Bring to a boil for about 5 minutes then cover and let simmer for 30-45 minutes or until meat is tender.

Enjoy with a little garlic french bread on the side :) and your favorite dark beer

21. If white-nose fungus keeps spreading, and kills all the bats,
we'll be suffering from all the skeeters they aren't eating!

18. Just remember, bats are WONDERFUL!
Fascinating mammals that play an important role in the grand design.

I think you're lucky...I would love to have a bat in my home...as long as they cats would ignore it!

22. OK, hugs and all, I know it can be scary, BUT...
...you've GOT TO admit this has a high "cool factor" to that.

BAT IN MY APARTMENT!

I'm sorry, but that just sounds...COOL. I almost want to sleep with the window open tonight to see if a bat will fly through MY place.

Maybe not THIS guy, though.

And window wasn't open! Windows CAN'T open! Just 3 doors, and they weren't open either! Guess it slipped thru a crack somewhere!

You may visit, to check the cool factor!

25. In my prior home I had a steady stream of wasps getting in through vents or something
Edited on Tue Aug-17-10 03:03 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
No idea. I'd be sitting in the house with the doors and windows closed and wasp would whiz by my ear. These weren't one-time events...this would happen EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS! LOTTA wasps! Don't STING me, bro!

Non-human organisms tend to live up to the "Where there's a will, there's a way" axiom.

:toast:

27. Little late for this, but HUG!!
On the topic of funny bat things, there's a "Malcolm in the Middle" episode where Hal and the boys released a boatload of bats in the house from an ancient armoire he rescued as a gift for his wife. "Well, that's just crazy", he says when he opens it. "Why would someone fill this with hundreds of hanging bow-ties?" Malcolm says: "Those aren't bow-ties. Those are BATS!!" And all these bats fly out into the house. IMO - and granted, I'm not a conoisseur of high comedy - this is one of the funniest things I've ever watched on the teevee machine. The way that Hal and his boys eventually get rid of the bats - with swimming noodles, Silly String, and a vacuum cleaner - is probably the way that I'd go about it. Hey, elleng, stock some Silly String for the next invasion, but here's hoping that there never will be one!!
