I agree - no gun - just a few beers:
Well all you ladies gather 'round That good sweet candy man's in town It's the candy man It's the candy man
He likes a stick of candy just nine inch long He sells as fast a hog can chew his corn It's the candy man...
All heard what sister Johnson said She always takes a candy stick to bed
Don't stand close to the candy man He'll leave a big candy stick in your hand
He sold some candy to sister Bad The very next day she took all he had
If you try his candy, good friend of mine, you sure will want it for a long long time
His stick candy don't melt away It just gets better, so the ladies say

if it's my girl best friend then we're getting up there together to sing the Dixie Chicks' "Goodbye Earl". *snort*
If it's my guy best friend then he's probably circumvent whatever I told the guy running the machine and make us sing "Blowin' in the Wind". He sings that all the freakin' time with a really bad, nasal twang to it. :eyes:
If left to my own devices it would probably be something by Sinatra or "Stinkfist" by Tool. :)
None of which is half as much fun as watching Will Pitt get drunk and start singing Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song". :)

31. I used to sing karaoke |
|
When I was in the Navy and visited places like Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia, I would always get plastered and find my way to a karaoke bar where I would belt out in a horrible voice songs like Soft Cells' "Tainted Love."
It was fun, and being drunk prevented me from knowing the horrible truth about my "singing" voice.

40. The "Anniversary Song" |
|
Remember the old jukeboxes? They all had the anniversary song (or maybe it was anniverary waltz?), and it was horrible. As a practical joke, we often used to plug a buck or two into the machines (back when you got 7 songs for a buck) and use every song option to play the anniversary song/waltz as were leaving the bar.

Never heard of Welcome to the Dollhouse.
And I haven't the anniversary song/waltz for 20 years or more, and have no remembrance of how it goes. Plus, remember, we only played when we were leaving, so I rarely ever heard the whole thing.

Though with all the johnny-come-lately fascination with Johnny Cash,I'm surprised they didn't all at least pretend that they loved the song, because tehy love Johnny Cash, because he's a hot item now before, four months from now, they completely dump him for some other new hot item, perhaps cod liver oil or manatee habitat preservation.

62. When I'm asked to sing karaoke in Japan |
|
I blow them all away by asking for "Namida no Sanbashi" ("Wharf of Tears") a big hit for Masako Mori in 1978 and again for Nobue Matsuzaka in the mid 1980s.
It's an enka (the sociological equivalent of country western music in Japan), so they always ask if I'm really sure about singing that one. But it was on the radio all the time when I was a student, and the accompaniment is easy to follow, so it's my favorite.
If I could find another woman who was of the appropriate age in 1977-78, I'd pair up with her to sing some of Pink Lady's greatest hits.
