Damn it, got some dissapointing news regarding a job |
|
I've been told I'm high on the list for a new reporter position at a wire service here in Beijing. I was happy to hear it as I am working way below my skill set now. It's for a western company which usually means twice as much as a chinese one. However, the guy told me the salary yesterday and it's actually LESS than what I make.
Kind of torn if I'm offered the position. I mean, I want to get back in real media for my resume, and this could get me a J-visa as well, plus it's a stepping stone to better jobs, but I was kinda hoping to stop being poor next year.

1. This is where you leak |
|
how valuable you are and how much you make, so they know they have to offer you more. Happens in the movies, right?

Means you can go to government press conferences and stuff. Without a J-visa, government officials won't even talk to you.

7. Would having a J-Visa mean the end of the possibility of visiting the DPRK? |
|
Because I know the DPRK doesn't much like journalists and having a big old J-Visa kind of makes it undeniable. Or are you already too deep into the field to go to the DPRK?

9. I could still go, but it would be hard, the DPRK will let reporters in |
|
My friend is a national TV correspondent and he was supposed to go this week, his station cancelled though.

13. I would take the job that gives you the best experience that is if you can afford to do it. |

14. Well, I weighed it all |
|
And I will take it, if only for the fact I'll simply be happier. Poorer, but happier. Plus there's always extra work here if you speak English, voice-over work, copy editing and all that. But, the main concern is that me and my SO have been discussing marriage and kids.... I can't afford a family on this money.
