Signed a new $2500 client today. Drinks are on me. |
|
Half up front, half when the Website is finished (in one month).
The work is out there. You have to beat the hedges harder than any time I remember in my lifetime, but it IS out there.
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

2. Thank you, my friend... |
|
...I did my homework. I went in prepared. I knew my stuff, and the response was "I like what you have to offer and your solid knowledge of the industry."
That's how you get paid.

7. Congrats! I agree. It hasn't been easy but I've been working my butt off and not complaining. |

Being a freelancer is a helluva lotta work but it's so worth it for me. I've made more this year than I ever have before, but I've worked sooooo hard to get there.
Cheers my friend.

...I agree. A lot of people are going to shut down mentally as we approach the holidays, but the professionals who are willing to work hard and tenaciously will emerge on top.
Best wishes for your continued success.

. . . . . . . . . ...and WELL-deserved with all the effort you put into your work. . . . . . . I've always wished for a job that would actually compensate me for the effort I'm willing to put into it. . . . . . And BTW, I used to tend bar (one of my favorite jobs) in a relaxed white-collar bar and the ONLY people who would come in and shout, "ONE FOR THE WHOLE JOINT!!!!" (other than the har-de-har-har jokesters who would shout it once they saw there were only one or two customers there) were car salesman who had had an exceptionally good day. . . . . . We did have an EXCEPTIONALLY nice factory-owner who would have a skeleton crew finish up all the week's odds-and-ends on Saturday morning and, in addition to the overtime pay, he would bring them all to our bar for lunch and drinks all afternoon while watching college football. . A really NICE man in so many ways... and he started off as the janitor in that factory. . . .

18. I work genuinely insane hours |
|
It's not unusual at all for me to get up at 3 AM on a Saturday morning and work straight through in a marathon until midnight on Sunday, with a couple of hours sleep and a few stretch / coffee breaks.
Tonight was a little different...I am updating a client's Website menus and they have now decided that they want to add prices, so I'm tweaking tables to make everything "pixel perfect." That aspect has a high burnout curve for me so I quit a few minutes ago (8:30 PM) and will pick it up in the morning (3 AM). The client gets to the restaurant around 10:30, everything will be updated by then.
For the new site, it will be one week of my brainstorming ideas for initial approval followed by three weeks of "brick by brick."

...yep, you not only have to beat those bushes, you have to be in the right place at the right time.
I had a conversation with a client once...a dentist, whose site cost $3500, and this was a month or two after I built the site...I said "I just happened to walk in your office, out of nowhere, at the exact moment in which you were ready to roll, right? He said "Yes."
A lot of planning and a lot of pumping dry wells goes into positioning one's self for those "moments."
