The Clear Channel Portland Memo

Later today we will be issuing a press release announcing a format change at AM 620 KPOJ. Wednesday morning (3/31) at 9am we will be dropping the Oldies format and will change to AM 620 KPOJ – Portland’s Progressive Talk Radio. The majority of the content will come from Air America, a new network promising to be a liberal alternative to conservative talk radio. We are very excited about our affiliation with Air America and look forward to filling a void in Portland radio. Here is the new weekday schedule for AM 620:

6am – 9am The Morning Sedition with Marc Maron, Sue Ellicott, and Mark Riley

9am – noon The O’Franken Factor with Al Franken

Noon – 3pm Ed Schultz

3pm – 7pm Randi Rhodes

7pm – 8pm Marty Kaplan

8pm – 11pm The Majority Report with Janeane Garofalo and Sam Seder

Tony Coles

Regional VP/Programming

Clear Channel - Oregon

Glad to hear the news, though.

5. You have a couple of guys on 710 at night that are
liberal, don't you?

I can't remember the guys name, but he's on DU's listen live board up top at the same time as Bernie Ward.

9. 710 is a mixed bag - I think you are talking about Mike Webb
On the good side, all the 710 Talkies are local
9 - 12 AM - Dave Ross - Middle of Road to Left
1 - 4 PM - Dori Monson - Right Wing. Constantly uses the canard "I voted for Gore and I didn't agree with the Impeachment" but is constantly bashing Kerry
7 - 10 PM - Fred Ebert. My favorite Conservative - He hates Bush!
10 - 1 AM - Mike Webb. Our one true liberal
1 AM - 5 AM - Lou Pate. AKA Lou Hate. RW hack. Deserves his time slot.
(The rest of the time is news)

11. The F'd up a year ago
The Mariners did a Request for Proposals to the local radio stations and Kiro-710 thought they had it in the bag so they entered some lame proposal. AM-1000 (KOMO) entered a proper proposal and the M's took up their offer. AM 1000 has been doing the M's games since 2003.

4. Good for Clear Channel
It's actually good to hear that CC is in it more for the money than for their politics. Seriously, this is good. The format will surely do well in Portland, and CC will be rewarded for that, and hopefully make that switch in other progressive cities! Say what you will about CC, if they make money with Air America programming, they'll try to make more.

6. yippee
I'm spreading the word.

I can't believe that it's a Clear Channel station. They must see some profit in it.

8. I just tuned in 620 to check reception, comes in great.
Geez, this is really a dreadfully bad oldies station. No wonder they were format shopping.

Although I assume I could capture the stream from anywhere on the internet, I'll make the gross assumption that "Closer is Better"!.
