Yet another msblast worm question |
|
My mom got this worm on her computer, and wants me to fix it. I go to Microsoft to download the patches, and there are two option for Windows XP -- 32 Bit and 64 bit. How can I tell which version she's running?

1. I had the same question |

Unless you are running a high end server, you are running a 32 bit version of windows.
Most home PC's will be 32 bit windows application.

2. Almost certainly the 32-bit version |
|
The 64-bit version of XP is intended for high-end workstations using the latest and most expensive Intel Itanium processors.
To get the version I believe you can go Start, Run, and type in winver.

I'm no expert (and I would hope someone who was would post here), but near as I could tell, she's probably 32-bit.
I run Windows XP Home edition, and there is some info on the MS web page regarding the new, high performance 64-bit version which is (as the last post said) for high-end users (3D animation, calculation-intensive technical functions, businesses). I couldn't find anything that specifically said my version was 32-bit however, so I gambled with the 32-bit version. It seemed to install okay, though.
Does the fact that there is a Windows System directory called System32 have anything to do with being 32-bit?
