An atheist friendly transporter |

Instead of the incredibly cumbersome and philosophically dangerous transporter of Star Trek fame, consider the space folding transport of Dune. This would entail folding space so that you can cover great distances without moving through space. This would be a safe way of transporting over distance without all the philosophical dilema of whether it is you coming out on the other side or not.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x949629Why not. Everything folds space/time via its gravity. Its seem the most plausible means of spanning great distances in a short amount of time. Macroscope by Piers Anthony addresses this subject pretty nicely. "The Spice must flow!"

You need hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings to operate it. They might take over the universe...

but I dont remember that kind of transport. I remember it in "a wrinkle in time"...maybe I have my books messed up??? Either way seems like a good mode of transportation to me lets look into it!

Such a method unequivocally preserves continuity of mind and body, unlike the teleporter, which may seem to, but even after experiencing it, you still can't be sure if you are the same unique consciousness that existed before transport.
