Rockland District High School football players went to the aid of a teammate Saturday evening in the aftermath of an accident that sent the victim to Bangor for medical attention.

According to Rockland Police Sgt. Ken Smith, a 17 year-old male was driving a 1998 Toyota sedan with another youth on the hood at around 6:15 on Oct. 15.

The young man on the hood put his foot on the ground while the vehicle was in motion, causing him to be dragged under the vehicle. The driver ran over the trapped youth.

Football team members, who were at RDHS for a banquet, lifted the vehicle and held it up until Rockland Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived.

2. a question

Since they were able to lift it(not overly surprising, on my HS football team, we did the same on several occasions) why did they not just move it off, and set it down somewhere else, rather than holding it up until EMS arrived?

Its nice when something is able to be done about the tradgedies that happen. I hope the young man is ok. And that this inspires other youth not to sit on the hood of a moving car.

4. Maybe the hood rider was wedged

between parts of the car. So all they could do was hold it until someone could free the kid.

Maybe the kid learned something.
