does it seem like people had more interesting conversations before the near total ubiquity of the |

internet? sometimes it seems that way to me.
we carry connectivity in our pockets now. our junior production guy literally refreshes facebook hundreds of time per day.
i just don't try anymore.
i'm dealing with people who grew up in a world where elevators NEVER had ashtrays and truckstops didn't have bars attached to them.
these younger people just aren't ALL THERE?!?!@
it's like you're talking to someone, but not really.
and they're always getting fresh calling me dude and shit. i tell them, 'motherfucker, i'm your goddamn boss. i ain't fucking "dude." you follow me?'

5. we used to get swedish erotica fuckbooks |
|
which showed full penetration, pubic hair, handlebar moustaches, and women with farrah fawcett hairstyles.
there were these two older creepy stoners who would have the teenagers come smoke pot with them and watch pornos, then they'd give us porno mags.
if that happened today, i'd probably be in kids therapy, on the news, and the two guys locked up in jail. but they never did anything overtly sexual. just two creepy old hippies who were horny and liked porn.
as a 13 year old male, receiving these magazines was like a gift. i probably lived in the bathroom for 3 months.

2. The pendulum always swings. |

Perhaps when people become bored of the utter narciccism of total information awareness and how it can be abused for "look at me" reasons, we may find a trend back toward higher-level information exchange.
Or maybe it's Jerry Springer Forever; I don't know ;)

3. "it's like you're talking to someone, but not really" |

I've found that to be true of lots of people, regardless of age. I think it has more to do with the person's innate intelligence than it does with the rise of the internet.

4. it's weird because i feel waves of disorientation due to the lack of real connection |

i don't even really "talk" to people as much as i manipulate them for business purposes. or so it seems.
hard to say.
but yeah, especially when people talk about teevee shows, their eyes gloss over and shit.

6. Well, that's it, they talk *about* stuff... |
|
...but they're not talking *to you*, not really. It's like they're not totally aware that you exist as a separate entity, but you're part of their environment, so they talk at it. They don't pick up any clues as to whether you're at all interested in what they're saying.

7. Shrug, I fired my boss long ago, showing he was not my boss. |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-21-10 12:08 AM by RandomThoughts
Since then I think those he tries to threaten with being fired, are my friends. Since he was never their boss either.
Here is what you do, if someone really is your boss, then they should have some control over your work environment, if they do not show that, then what they are doing, as so greatly said by an artist I admire, they are fronting.
 However I find most that don't say they are bosses, but friends, do not make power plays.
Remove your boss if he can not defend his arguments. Although all the courageous hard working people, the prisoners, those are people I respect.

:D
I used to sit in the break room at one of my jobs way back when and some folks never talked about anything but TV shows, it was bizarre. This led my co-worker and I to go out to lunch every day.
