If you don't know the real time drama of watching a hummingbird build a nest and raise babies, you don't know obsession.

I watched with fascination last spring when she had two little chicks in her nest.
And I watched with great sadness when the website's owner had to rescue the one chick he could find when they were thrown out of the nest by a crow. I'm praying the babies will be safe this year. That was heartbreaking.

After the second one fledged, an adult and two juveniles were spotted together in the yucca near the rose bush where the nest is. So, there's hope. The drama of nature in real time is pretty powerful, though, innit?
