Trick or Treater check-in thread, how many have you had so far?
I've gotten about 20 so far with about an hour and a half to go. 20 more than I usually got when I lived in PA!

2. Nothing yet, but it's still light.
Daylight saving time used to be over by Halloween so it got dark by 5:30 or so. Now the kids have to wait another hour for it to be appropriately dark for trick-or-treating.

Then again, this is the first year I've lived in my apartment that I've been home on Halloween to give out candy, so I have no idea how many kids actually come around. I guess we'll see!

40. I got 3 trick-or-treaters come to my door tonight.
Left the light on for 5 hours then turned it out at 10pm. Only got three, but I was certainly generous to those who did come. :P

My light is off (well we still have light outside too). I'm the awful neighbor that doesn't give out candy, plus in years past I was at work anyway. Plus my door bell doesn't work, so there's that too.

I also don't put up any Christmas decorations.

This is a good neighborhood, and my neighbors give me a lot of leeway being that I'm a single woman owner. If I'm not here then who's there to pass out candy? I guess if I had kids at Christmas it would be different, but honestly, my cats don't give a fuck about lights. :)

But, I have to say, we live on a very dark dead end street and usually we've never gotten more
than a half dozen in any year anyway. Don't expect to be tricked.

15. that must be fun!
Are all the houses decorated too?

that's kinda like how the neighborhood I grew up in was like. There were a bunch of us kids in the area, so we got a ton of people. But then everyone grew up and no new people have moved in, so no more kids come around anymore. This is my first halloween in my new apartment and so 30-40 have shown up.

17. Yes indeed
Halloween is bigger than Christmas 'round these parts. I live in a kind of historic part of our village (although it hasn't been designated as a historic district or anything, all the houses are from the 1800s), with a lot of old trees--and lots of piles of leaves at the moment. Very quaint. And because it's easy to hit a lot of houses on several streets that make up this part of the village, loads of kids show up from the outlying areas. Quite often my street (one of the widest) is lined with minivans that disgorge bunches of kids, then they disappear a couple of hours later. (We don't mind. ;) )

11. 0, but there is a story.
After the first three rang the bell and Mrs. Landlord Mom chased them off with a hot grease-filled chicken fryer bellowing at them in guttural Albanian (I think it's Albanian at least. It might be Orcish.), I think the rest of the building was scared off. I'm not sure if she thought they were muggers or demons or what. She seems confused as to why her son, Stef and I filled a plastic pumpkin with candy as well.

I suspected she'd come in handy eventually for something other than cleaning the can 6 times a day and stealing my toothbrush. I'm pretty sure the COA is going to summon us to the next meeting for this though.

The first two were a brother and sister. He is about 3 dressed as a mouse and she is about 5 dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz (I live in KS). After they got their goodies they said "Thank you very much and have a happy Halloween!" I nearly melted. Their mom and dad were with them, but stayed in the background. So sweet!!!!

23. None..live in an apt building, no one can get into the building
to get to the apt doors without an access key.
Plus it is a downtown apt complex with very few, if any, kids.

Which kind of makes me sad, cuz up til this year I lived in a house where we got TONS of kids each year. So to sit here and get NO ONE is really weird. Still bought some candy, have the apt door decorated and stuff in case there is a random kid but as of now (8:30 pm CST), not a peep from anyone.

we always get so many cause we do so much to house, and have strobe light and fogger. kids dress up. but .... wow to the number of people. was amazing. ran out by 8:15. never ran out this early

on edit... hubby just found 200 more glow sticks. but no fun just giving glow sticks and no candy.

26. We had 25 kids between 6 and 8 pm.
Friday, I bought a box of 30 full size candy bars (Snickers, M&M's, 3 Musketeers, Skittles and Starburst) at Costco for $10. Mr. Lake was convinced that it was not enough candy, numerically, and too big to give little kids. Besides, those are the candy bars we like, and what a deal.

Anyway, we had 5 left and the kids loved them. The Skittles and Starburst went first, in that order.

28. I'm really surprised and sort of sad
Only 2 groups of 2 and 5 so far. It's quarter to ten here. Can't remember a year when it's been like this, and certainly when my boys trick-or-treated, the doorbell hardly ever stopped ringing. When I was a kid - okay, here we go with the memories - Halloween was one of THE big holidays of the year. Then, I dunno, it turned into this satanic, evil festival and people forbade their kids to partake. Now, I'm not one to judge others on how they live their lives, but hey, it's sad to see a time when we were all happy and carefree - and nauseous - turned into something bad.

Boo.

29. Probably about 75 to 100 or so. Great fun.
Had a box (25) of full size candies Snickers/Twix for those deemed "worthy" lol. Some standard lollipop fare. Also sticker books/ temp tattoos and glow bracelets.

The candy bowl is big skull with glowing red eyes and it has a motion sensor so a skeleton hand comes out over the bowl and tickles your hand while it cackles.

Also had a table fountain and dropped dry ice in it. Kids loved it.

35. The previous 16 Halloweens I was in a different house/location...
...and I'm guessing I would get anywhere from 60 - 100 on any given year, depending upon prevailing conditions, such as when, in the last three years I lived in that house, van loads of kids from a local church would be dropped off on my street, and they would avoid my house -- I suppose because I had a custom made limited edition scary dia de los muertos style ouija board on the front porch as part of my scary art show display.

These were the local church people who distributed costume suggestions for Halloween based on Biblical Characters.

This Halloween, in my new location, despite being in a residential area one block away from the heart of the "old town" biz district, sadly, so far, ZERO trick-or-treaters have shown up. As I post this, it is 7:35 pacific time...

I am, however, prepared with another scary art show and enough high fructose corn syrup treats for up to 174 trick-or-treaters, the first thirty will get stuffed ziploc bags filled with many different items.

It is still a little early here in the Los Angeles area, so I'm hoping for a little traffic at some point...?

38. Maybe three doorbell rings and eight kids total
at my parents' house. It's definitely dropped off from when I was a kid and the doorbell would ring 15 or 20 times. Don't know if this neighborhood's just gotten older or if the over-the-top urban legends that have gone around for decades have had a long-term effect on trick-or-treating around here. Kinda sad...

which is sad. We live in a nice neighborhood with kids. I was disappointed.

I remember when I was a kid....Halloween was something we looked forward to all freaking year. We'd bring home bunches of candy. There were kids roaming the streets...EVERYWHERE.

I kinda feel sorry for kids these days....

And a plus for me and my bro...we went to Catholic school, so we had no school on Nov. 1, All Saints Day.

...I'm too cheap and dislike children too much to pass out candy.
I was out and about in the early evening and when I got home it was just after dark, but I only saw one trick-or-treater on my block, and only a few houses had their front lights on. I was out of town last year so I don't know if it's down significantly from then.
