DC is way inconvenient for the Westerners, and it's too hot and humid.

1. The closest would be Frederick, but Bushton is very nearby.

The only problem with that is the availability of sushi and hookers. I don't think Congress can survive without them (might be a good thing).

5. The redlight district is within easy walking distance of the White House...
.
.
.
.
.
I used to work in the area midway between the two (and felt surrounded by
the same types on both sides)
.
.
.
I'm sorry. I owe the hookers an apology for that thought.
.
.
.
Anyways, I took the wrong bus home once (14th Street bus instead of the 16th).
It was a slight foggy night and the street scenes were fucking SURREAL - lots of
gold lame and leopard skin hot pants and microminiskirts. Riveting. Not tempting
in the least (these were some of the worst of the worst off -- though it was
before the crack epidemic).
.
.
.
One hilarious point when we were stopped for a red light (traffic, not business
red light). One of the johns had pulled to the curb and a patrol car had pulled
in behind him (but coincidentally -- the police seemed to have no interest in
HIM). The hooker was trying to (laughingly) discreetly get him to pull around
the corner with TINY movements of her hands and head -- anywhere NOT
directly in front of the police.
.
He was clueless. It was EXTREMELY funny... bless her mercenary and DETERMINED
li'l... um... heart.
.
.
.

7. I had a summer job in DC in '79. I had to take stuff to the post office at 14th and K.
That was a WEIRD fucking experience. I passed by two guys and overheard one say to the other, "man, he's cuter than she is". That sort of freaked me out - I was like 16 at the time.

2. LOL- You know that Kansas is warmer in the summer and colder in the winter than DC
Right?
DC's climate is actually pretty mild...its cooled/warmed by the ocean temps..Does it get hot in the summer? Yes. But the idea that the midwest is actually cooler in the summer is completely and utterly wrong, actually 2010 was a wacked out year here. Usually our climate is pretty moderate compared to the rest of the country...

4. I've lived in/spent summers in different areas of the U.S besides D.C.....
.
.
.
.
.
...the South (Kentucky/Tennessee border), the Northeast (Connecticut),
the East (Philadelphia), and the Southwestest (San Antonio and Tucson).
.
Subjectively, at least, D.C. was the worst for heat AND humidity in the
summer.
.
Tucson gets hotter (up to 110 - 112), but the humidity is usually less
than 10% at those temps AND it cools down and dries out significantly
at nighttime. D.C. got hot and humid in the late Spring and seemed to
STAY hot and humid 24/7 until sometime in late September/early October.
.
There's a good reason why most politicians run - RUN, I tell you - back to
their constituents during the summer months. There's about 98/98/24/7
damn good reasons.

9. Go to Atlanta in July..
and you'll understand why I say, DC's heat and humidity, while bad could be much much worse...
And my mom lived in Phoenix for a few years, when I've commented about the its not the heat its the humidity she says that the Arizona heat is like living in an oven..and thats just as bad in her mind...:)

16. Phoenix usually gets up to about 10 degrees HOTTER than Tucson...
.
.
.
.
.
... (some say it's because it's almost solid asphalt). Flying into Phoenix, I noticed some
neighborhoods where ALL the houses had swimming pools (though there seemed to always
be ONE that did not -- that would be the house I would buy and hope for kind neighbors
as I just hate maintenance).
.
I've felt as high as 112 and there was a slight-to-moderate breeze. That breeze DID feel
like I had just opened the oven door and leaned down to look inside.
.
I will take that over 98 degrees and 98% humidity any time alla time.
,
,
I lived in Atlanta for a while (outskirts of Buckhead), but during the Fall/Winter. My GF there
let me know that they didn't see much snow. Once, at 3 AM or so, she woke me up about as
excited as I've ever seen her (well... ... ... ... you know). She DRAGGED me out of bed and
outside in my barefeet and underwear. It had snowed during the night and there was probably
1-2 inches on the ground.
.
.
She had always been fascinated by the ability but never had the opportunity to write her name
in the snow.
.
.
.
.
She exploited me. USED ME!!!!
.
.
.
.
There was much sleepy mumbling and giggling on my part, though I don't think I ever woke up
fully -- DESPITE the cold.
.
.
.
.
And, considering her lack of experience... her pen(is)manship was pretty remarkable.
.
.
.

But, if you're going to be fair to Alaska and Hawaii you'd move it to Belle Fourche South Dakota.

10. It would be much more fair to split it up.
House over here, senate over there, President up there, SCOTUS down there. Or something. That way we all have access, at least a bit.

suitable candidates exist in CA (home of John Wayne Airport :puke: ), FL (Orlando), and NY (NYC exurbia). :P

17. I say we just put it all on wheels
and move from state to state.

Harder for terrorists to plan a bombing, too, if the targets keep moving around.

22. Good idea. And move it without telling the Republicans. They'd wake up the next morning
and wonder where the Washington Monument went, and not be able to find their cars. At first it would be just like a regular Sunday morning to most of them, but after a while they'd realize they weren't hungover, that everything was just gone. That would be a great prank!

24. The geographical center of the country is in South Dakota
So I guess we should move the capitol to Rapid City. At least it would put Mount Rushmore way on the top of the list of most-visited national monuments.
