I'd probably hate the book, but I just love the cover |

Wouldn't a socialist kind of spread it around? Or would that be Marxism? ;-)

3. The same people who claim that "only good little boys and girls get presents"... |
|
. . . . . ...are the same people who claim he's a Kenyan (and a seekert Muslim). . . . I don't know about you, but I don't think I was EVER a good little boy and I never got a lump of coal in my stocking. . . . . . . . If you're thinking that maybe I WAS a good little boy and I'm just embarrassed to admit it -- not long before she died (at the age of 81), MiddleFingerMomMom swore me to secrecy ("don't you DARE tell the other kids") and said, "You were always my favorite... and ALWAYS my most trouble!!!" . . . I didn't even TRY to argue. I was a bad bad little boy... but I guess a pretty charming one. . . .

that socialist Santa was trying to appease you out of raw terror.
I'm not so sure about the socialism. Everyone at school knows that kids from certain neighborhoods get video game consoles and mountain bikes, and kids from other neighborhoods get plastic crap from the dollar store.

7. I like to tell people this about the holidays: the lump of coal was... |
|
...a kindness!
Think about it. For the poor, particularly in England, being cold in the winter was a given. Giving a kid a lump of coal ensured that on Christmas night, even a rotten kid would be at least warm and toasty. Of course, from the kid's angle, this would be even worse than getting pajamas from Grandma. But a lump of coal was a small kindness.
