"A Nightmare on Elm Street": Disappointing series |
|
I just finished watching the original again, and was blown away at how effective it was. Disturbing, trenchant, and I'll be damned if Krueger wasn't a nasty piece of work.
What a shame the sequels turned out to be R-rated cartoons.

The premise was great, since it allowed for the doomed teens to actually act intelligently and make plans against the threat, but still end up isolated and in danger. And yeah, Krueger was much more effective here. He still has his trademark humor on display, but it's a lot more subtle and cruel than all the stupid action-movie quips he keeps throwing out through the sequels.
Heck, I even think II is ok. Sure it makes absolutely no sense in the continuity and has tons of flaws. But it did manage to be occasionally creepy, which is more than can be said of any of the sequels.
