1. I've always wanted to see the Brandenburg Gate.
It's the history buff in me.

2. I am sure you would enjoy it
they have done so much in the last 20 years since the wall came down. A lot of history combined with modern stuff.

3. OMG, call security!
They let you take photos in a train station? Terror, terror, terror!

:sarcasm:

Just kidding of course. Here in Kiev, I have yet to have an issue photographing anything...except that time I had an exposed camera too close to the US consulate.

4. I took the pics before the terror thread
:7

I remember when I was in Kiev a few years ago I didn't have any problems. When I took pics of a couple soldier/police guys with their big hats they weren't too happy though.

Don't even know if we went near the US consulate.

12. Very interesting architecture and decor in that chapel
However, I find that that church, like all churches, has a significant creepiness factor. That figure hovering in space, for example ... :scared: *shudder*

9. I wish I had hitchhiked to Berlin.
Rather than stay in Switzerland for a foolish heart-throb. Plus it would have been an adventure hitching through what was then, East Germany.

Nice pics. :)

10. Berlin can wait
... but a foolish heart-throb? No contest - you chose wisely. With one of your brains, anyway.

Yeah, you can't hitch through East Germany since the merge, however, there's always Iran.

11. Are the church walls made of glass?
It must really shine on a nice day. It looks bright in the picture, and the day looks gloomy.

What's the glass dome behind the Reichstag? Or is that part of the Reichstag?

Thanks for the photos.

14. The light in the church is amazing
for me it makes that church special. I am not religious or anything, but the mood in that church is soothing.

The glass dome is part of the Reichstag. It is open for the public. But I haven't been in there yet.

20. Closed the dome this week, re: terrorism
I always wanted to see the Brandenburger Tor without barbed wire. A couple of weeks ago in the Smithsonian leaning on the wall a small piece came off which I ate. I'll have that with me now. Love Berlin, my favorite city in the world.

30. The church walls are glass block
They made these little 10cm square glass blocks with designs in them. When the blocks were assembled into a wall, a large mural appeared.

This building was constructed before computer graphics, so they had to design every block to fit into the overall mural for that wall (and remember, it had to work with space between the blocks), then they had to install each block in exactly the right position, and exactly straight. It is an incredible work--made even more incredible by the fact each of the six walls in this church has a different design.

16. Terrific pix, all of them.
I particularly like the moody day you captured at the German Chancellery. The expanse of concrete and the clouds, very effective.
