Anybody catch that godawful McDonald's commercial on AirAmerica? |
|
Sort of this pseudo-country Sheryl Ho type thing with a bad rhyme scheme. Maybe I'm just not in a normal market for this commercial, but I've never heard it before. What a piece of crap.

If AirAmerica has commercials -- that means that it has corporate sponsorship...This means that corporations will be involved in supporting the discourse. Furthermore, that means the people on this station are not going to be able to take principled stands that might conflict with corporate interests.
If AirAmerica is a Democratic (liberal) station, and has corporate commercials -- that means the democratic party is becoming further compromised and entangled into corporate interests.
I haven't followed this AirAmerica (because I've always thought it was a bad idea)...but this makes me really concerned.
Who else advertises? This is really a bad situation. I would wonder if this is really liberal radio, or if it is corporate radio with a friendly face. Not good.

3. Sometimes you advertise where you get the best coverage per dollar |

I am guessing Air America will do quite well. These early advertisers probably struck one awesome, long range deal. I very doubt much doubt that Franken and CO will buckle to the whims of advertisers.

not all advertisers try to control content.
we are a very desirable demographic, loyal & very aware of who advertises. These companies should be rewarded with our business - fear of losing our business once they have it is a very powerful tool.

6. While I don't disagree with what you said.... |

...you might also consider that the commercials might come from the local affiliate, rather than the Air America network itself. For example, it's obvious that the Fraudministration propaganda ads I heard this morning (featuring Powell, Ridge, and others) were coming from Clear Channel, who happenned to own the station that was streaming the show. Now I DO have concerns with Air America contracting with the enemy's network in the first place, but unfortunately there are some markets where corporate radio is the only game in town :(
