Instead of "what do you want for Christmas?"... |
...shouldn't we have been asking our kids, "what do you want to give for Christmas"?

I enjoy hearing what my sons (now adults) buy for others. They're very thoughtful. And both throw a little something toward the underprivileged as well, though they're in the churchmouse category themselves.

2. Not at Christmas, but that was a birthday tradition when I was a kid. |
Our folks encouraged us to celebrate our lives by doing something for someone else on our birthdays. Nothing forced (except for making sure books we no longer read went to the library and toys we no longer played with went to Goodwill), but sharing got to be something we enjoyed. The handwritten thank-you notes -- those were forced and non-negotiable and had to be written within five days of Christmas or birthday. I enjoy doing handwritten thank-you notes now, though. :hi:

4. I write my thank you notes on my birthday (12/26) - but I'm odd |
I've always liked writing the notes, even as a brat.
