1. hard to say
I would definetly think about moving out, and would be very clear as to why I was heading toward the door.

we dont think alike. but we are compatible and respectful.

hm

tough question. because there is more to it than just believing differently. maybe if no one ever talked about it, so i didnt have to hear it. but it is such a difference in thought.

i couldnt imagine being married to stupid though. i like smart too much

4. Couldn't say unless I was actually confronted with that, but my inclination is absolutely yes
I couldn't share my life with (and really would prefer to not even know) anyone who was a supporter of blatant and aggressive hate, ignorance and bigotry.

5. Murder, maybe. Otherwise, suicide. But divorce? Naah. That would be shallow.
Divorce I reserve for if she becomes a Carrot Top fan.

8. Yes
But I'd hate to think I could ever fall for someone vulnerable to Beck's rantings to begin with. My ex hubby was a mistake (among other things lol) but not ignorant. :-)

9. If he came to believe the same things Beck spouts, it would
mean that he no longer had the same moral values as me (equality, tolerance, social justice, etc), so I imagine it would be extremely difficult to stay together. But then, if he were changed by a TV show, I'd try to change him back by force-feeding him The Daily Show and KO.

10. Well, it would certainly cause a lot of arguments & that's not good.
Not a snowball's chance near Limpball's mouth would that ever happen.

We met during the Carter presidency & we both loved him & despised the idea that a washed-up B-movie actor was being hyped as the next president. He doesn't keep up with politics like I do, but he's got all the virtues, character, & ideals of a Democrat.

I just know I wouldn't be happy with someone who thinks like a Republican. He'd surely disappoint me; I have to admire the man I'm with.

He really hates Glenn Beck. If he suddenly became a GB fan, I'd know it was time.

13. I reckon its not all just black and white.......
Most times I just never tune into Beck or the other stuff on FOX like my Republican finace often does.

But from time to time I find, well, gee golly, they might have a point and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt...this one time.

It's all not so black and white ya'll. In fact, I think sometimes the *other side* might just have a valid point in some rare instances. I am not beyond reproach in this way and I would like to think that the vice-versa applies as well.

Perhaps the real challenge is to find some kind of common ground, in a way.

...and I don't really think that is possible if either side is just so hell-bent on their own perspective so as to not AT LEAST CONSIDER the points of views from the other side - or else - whats to follow?

A gradual shifting perhaps?

Who knows? Perhaps?

Something better to come out of it all as a result IF both parties are equally in alignment with something all of us can deem to be the truth across the board...which I suspect deep down, that all of us are in the process of trying to figure out for ourselves and will not accept anything less along these lines.........and when truth comes a knocking - from whatever ends it might well derive from - ALL of us knows this and will appreciate it and I don't care what label you attach to it one way or the other....truth is truth and really - isn't that really what all of us are after...after all????????

Bottom line: I no longer shoot first, ask questions later. I no longer throw the baby out with the bathwater. I no longer burn my bridges. What I DO try to do instead (now) is none of these things and in the process, perhaps, might aspire to some fabric, some thread of truth within it all somewhere and somehow...all pride standing aside!

...and really now folks - when you get right on down to it - isn't pride really at the heart of it all....in more ways than one in your own lives?

Sade said it well in her song: Love is Stronger Than Pride. Let's get real everyone!

Maybe all of us are really after the same exact thing...only we go about it in different ways which seem (on the surface) to clash with our opponents' views of things...but really, in the end - don't we all really want the need the same exact things? Bottom line?

To love and be loved?.....In the end? ALL of us?

Can I get a witness???????

Call me naive....but I think this is what it all truly boils on down to be ~

20. Well...
You speak of truth and how finding it is important. I agree. I bet most everyone here would agree. But the OP asked if anyone could continue to share a life w/a person who is a Beck believer. Not merely a Beck listener, but a Beck believer My reading of that would be a person who believes what Beck says along w/his view of things.

I see nothing wrong w/keeping an open mind about anything and everything. Knowledge is a good thing. In fact it is knowledge that can help us to see what is and is not truth. Even a 5 year old child knows someone is not telling the truth if that person insists that black is white, up is down, and right is left. In 5 short years of living that child has learned enough to know that those assertions are not the truth.

The problem w/Beck, Limbaugh and Fox News is that they all have, at one time or another, tried to feed people distortions and even outright lies. And once someone lies (even once) it's hard to take anything else they say seriously... This is not to say that there are no distortions and lies of opposing viewpoints, but I've yet to see any rivaling that of the 3 afore mentioned entities.

How do I know this? I've taken the time to build up my own knowledge base instead of allowing any one person or source feed it to me. And if someone makes an assertion about something beyond my knowledge base, I take the time to find out if it is true or not before I believe and go around parroting what they say. I'd certainly be more inclined to believe one source over another if their info has always been reliable in the past But even then, it's always good to double check and never rely on one source. Particularly if that source is Beck.

I'd be leary of anyone who is a 'believer' of another human being anyway, just because we ALL are limited in varying degrees and on varying subjects. But I'd especially be afraid to commit any amount of time to someone who is a believer of a person who has lied to them.

But welcome to DU! This is the first time I've seen you. :hi:

I come from a complicated family. My Mom used to be a communist when I was young and my Dad is a retired Green Beret. I was born in Germany (my Mom is German) as is my Sis. Oh yeah, my Dad is black but my Mom is white.

After my Dad retired, he had several security type jobs (personal protection) and now protects Herman Cain. Cain is a black conservative DJ in Atlanta. He is actually a really cool guy.

My Mom started reading Ayn Rand about 5 years ago and calls herself an Objectavist now. I am a grad student in International Comms.

I took the question seriously. The point I am making is that I am willing to listen to all arguments. I have watched Glen Beck when he had some black leaders on there and I was impressed.

I am trying to stay at 50,000 feet and make sense of it all.

<<here comes the heat>>

which is good.

my husband is such a lefty (thank god), that if he became a Glenn Beck believer
I would worry about his mental health.

Also, my husband is pretty good with his history...and Glenn Beck makes stuff up.
Not sure how that would work.
