there is a widely-held belief (that I am uncertain of the veracity of) that Friedrich Nietzsche only had sex one time in his life (either with his own sister or a prostitute) and contracted syphilis which ultimately was his cause of death.
Still not as lame as Proust who died of a lung infection because he had his apartment walls layered with padding that got damp and grew mold that caused a lung infection...that would not have been fatal if monsieur P, had not been an agoraphobic.
