does anyone here use abiword for word processing? |
|
I just tried to open a document I had written in abiword and it appeared in gobbledegook. At the top it said <?xm1 version="1.0" encoding "UTF-8"
WTF is going on? This never happened before and not all of my documents open to this bizarro stuff...
I don't know what is going on, since I am technically a stone ager...

1. What file format was the document? |
|
I've used abiword and never really had a problem with it.
Were you maybe trying to open a file format that it didn't recognize?

2. I think it was Notepad. I've had the file and accessed and modified it |
|
for about 8 months continuously...never had a problem. It's always been there since I created it. It's almost as if I inadvertently tripped a switch somewhere...perhaps last week when I was trying to create a document, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it was that I did wrong...

Well, if I'm understanding you correctly, the font you mentioned is UTF-8 which is Unicode - which should be readable in a .txt documat through almost any software/word processing program.
I dunno. Maybe select the whole thing and change the font?

7. OK, I tried but nothing happened. It was listed as a text document and I |
|
tried to save it as a rich text document, because I didn't know any better. Should I have chosen Unicode in the drop down box?
I'm sorry to be so dense...

8. .rtf format shouldn't produce gobbledygook from a .txt file |
|
And Unicode shouldn't either. I'm kind of stumped.

4. Could it have been saved as another file type the last time you successfully modified it? |

6. I don't think so. I just hit the usual save button...never a problem in the past. |
