Question for Doc Martin fans (TV show, not the shoes)--and possible spoiler for newbies, I suppose
Okay Doc Martin fans--I just started watching the series on Netflix, and as a fan of Northern Exposure and Ballykissangel, this is right up my alley, and I love it. I plowed through the entire first season, and started the second, in one day, and now I have to ask...(here's the spoilery bit)...

HOW THE HELL do you survive the departure of Elaine???? I didn't know she left after the first season and I am totally distraught without her! I realize Lucy Punch is an amazing actress and moved on to other great things, but damn, the show without her obnoxious character is just wrong...innit?

1. Oh Nooooo!
Elaine leaves. Damn. I was starting to fancy her (watching Series One now). Maybe she was tired of the hair extensions for the part.

Oh well, there's still the school teacher to fancy...

3. The teacher is very pretty
I must admit that there is no eye candy on the show for me, as a straight female. The policeman is too Ken doll-ish (albeit amusingly goofy). Al's not half bad, I suppose. :)

Anyway, I felt like a lot of energy just slipped out of the show with her departure, but I haven't watched a lot of the second season yet. Maybe I'll adjust...

2. I honestly didn't miss her.
It was just "oh, there's a new girl". I like Pauline though. Maybe I'll rewatch the first season- it's been a while.

4. I'll try to withhold my judgment till I watch more of the subsequent seasons
She was such a tour de force as a character that it takes some getting used to, not having her there.

6. Pauline's ok, 'like' her outfits.
Love the ambience, geography, and the Brits do SO WELL with dialogue!

5. Cold feet making a comeback

COLD Feet star Helen Baxendale has been asked to sign up for a new series of the hit drama - even though her character is DEAD.

7. Didn't bother me a bit
Pauline grows on you.

(Our local PBS station is showing this. A friend of mine has seen Martin Clunes in other TV series and assures me that he's not a bit like Doc Martin in real life. He plays entirely different characters, sympathetic ones, even.)

Katherine Parkinson - Known to "The IT Crowd" fans as "Jen":

There's a quality to her speaking voice that fascinates me.
