This is the gospel truth, I swear. |

I'm using the computer room in the library because my computer is on the fritz (I'm taking it in later today for repairs). There is this guy in the row in front of mine, looking at pictures of scantily clad females! In the library! :wow:

1. I've seen stuff like that too at my local library. Sad. |

Mostly people on FB and those instant chat things (AOL?... not up on it) In fact, the library has WAY more traffic then it used to, but it's mostly people coming in to use the computers.
One time, I was in there for over 4 hours doing research on something, (the old-fashioned way) and during that entire period, only 2 other people actually came in to either borrow or return books. Seriously. Meanwhile, people were just sitting there waiting their turn for those computers. There's apparently a sign-up sheet limiting everyone to a half hour.
What surprised me the most is how they just sat around waiting! A library to me is like a candy store w/endless amounts of free samples. How can someone just sit there w/time to kill and not at least show some curiosity about the goods?
I 'get it' that for one reason or another (likely poverty) people don't have computers of their own to use and I'm thankful that they have some access. And just because I can afford one myself doesn't make me more deserving. I'm just saying that it's sad that the library seems to be of little interest to people beyond the computers.
Don't people just read anymore?
