Slash: No G'n'R songs on "Glee"..."Glee is worse than Grease and Grease is bad enough"
Slash Refuses to Allow Guns N' Roses Music on 'Glee'
Guitarist also says that Velvet Revolver is looking for a new lead singer

By Matthew Perpetua
January 20, 2011 9:45 AM EDT

Slash has told Entertainment Weekly that he rejected a request from the producers of Glee to use Guns N' Roses music in an episode of the series. His reasoning was pretty simple: He thinks the hit show is horrible.

"Glee is worse than Grease and Grease is bad enough," he told EW. "I look at Grease now and think, 'Between High School Musical and Glee, Grease was a work of art.'" So Slash is definitely not a fan of squeaky-clean singing teens.

The guitarist does not have a hardline stance against licensing Guns N' Roses' hits, but prefers to lend his music and image to projects he endorses. For example, his distinctive image is used extensively in the video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Slash also discussed the future of his band Velvet Revolver with EW, saying that the group is currently auditioning a new singer. He was mum on details, but admitted that among the possibible candidates, "There’s one guy that’s definitely pretty well-known." Speculate away!

1. +1 for Slash
Then again, I think I'm the only person on Earth who can't stand Glee.

7. I hate it and both of my kids were in chorus throughout HS.
There's not enough glitter in the world to take the stink off a show as bad as Glee.

Yea, Slash!

Still hate it. If I wanted high school drama all over again, I'd go back to high school.

Glee version of "Don't Stop Believin'" that they kept playing at the Golden Globes was enough to make me stop believin'...

Glee is the worst show on tv since Fox News Channel.

Seriously sick to death of "sanitized, packaged, and fortified with boring and stupid for your express enjoyment" entertainment.

9. Wow - and if a guy like Slash says something is bad, you gotta believe it!
He is such an ass, but I support him in this one.

Thanks for having at least some shred of artistic integrity.

14. I actually got to hang with Slash when he was recording at a studio I used to work at.
He is one of the nicest guys I ever met -- not an ounce of "rock star ego" and was always very pleasant to everyone. He loves to talk about music, guitars, pinball machines, etc...

When he was leaving after his last day at the studio, I held out my hand to say goodbye. He grabbed me, gave me a big hug and said, "I'm gonna miss you guys."

He is not an ass, at all.

30. I've heard that from others, that he's quite wonderful in person.
He just always seems like such an ass when he's doing an interview or performing, though I just watched an interview with him on David Letterman from what appears to be January, 2008 - apparently he stopped the drugs and drinking a while ago and seems to have calmed down a lot and acts more normal.

It would appear that Axl is still an asshole.

33. We pretty much witnessed the break up of Guns n' Roses.
They were doing "Sympathy for the Devil" for the movie, "Interview with a Vampire." The whole band was there, laid down their tracks, music was all finished -- all that was left was the vocals. Axl, of course, kept everyone waiting and then failed to show up two nights in a row. When he did show up, he had a guitar player friend of his from home that he wanted to bring into the band. He had the guy play some guitar on the song but didn't tell the other guys. When they came in for the playback (Axl wasn't there, of course) and they heard this other guitar player, Slash flipped his lid! There was a big argument in the parking lot, and that was the beginning of the end.

25. It's amazing to me that someone with limited talent such as Slush would..
..bash Glee. Glee is certainly not the "Standard" in Art but it, at least, has people that carry a tune without using 2 million dollars worth of electronics.
My Rule on playing and singing and judging others.....(and I do sing on key thanks to PP and play pretty damn good)..if One can't duplicate the actions of another Musician...within 15 minutes..Keep your idiot opinions to yourself. You may fool the populace but to other Musicians, they know the score.

27. I'm with Slash on this one...
...up to a certain point. I mean, Guns N'Roses were an amazingly overrated band, and Glee is an amazingly overrated TV show, so on one level they kind of deserve each other.

On the other hand, I definitely do respect the rights of artists to not get dragged into that after-school-special karaoke bullshit. (Yes, I've seen several episodes of it. No, I wasn't moved or impressed in the least.)

31. I think that sums up the way I feel, too.
I can enjoy Glee and agree with Slash's right to voice his opinion and keep his artistic integrity. Many of us, musicians or not, are very opinionated about our musical preferences. Slash has a right to do what he is doing.

I am very bothered by the number of good songs that show up as TV commercials. Maybe he wants something better than that for his music.

I like Glee and will continue watching it.

32. It is just a matter of taste - I wasn't crazy about Guns & Roses
they just didn't quite make greatness in my book.

Glee is okay and it is certainly opening up young ears to some great music from the past. They have talent on the show, but some of the talent is not as great as they try to make it.

That chick is definitely no Barbra Streisand and she has butchered some great songs. She cannot hit the notes so she does weird variations that take away from the beauty of the song, the music. And she is too nasally - she doesn't sing from her diaphram.
