1. Now you know why DC's Metro is either below ground
Or on elevated rails....I see stuff like that ALL THE DAMN TIME...(including a dumbass left turn person who almost tboned me as I went straight through an intersection)

2. We can't do it below ground here
because the water table is about four feet down (I know from digging post holes.) And elevating is too expensive. That and Houston drivers would just find some way of running into them, too ;)

If you've never driven in Houston, then my biggest suggestion is not to drive here. Get a chauffeur!
