1. Not personally but I work for a website....
and there are still thousands and thousands of @aol.com email addresses being actively used around the country.

5. can you believe that I still have one friend that refuses to let go of it
she finally got a new (used - 4 y/o) computer with IE and she is complaining about IE. I asked her if she installed AOL and tried to explain to her that this was her problem not the IE.

3. I know one person - he actually works for a technology company, so I
think he keeps the AOL address partly as a joke...

6. I still have an email addy...
I'd like to dump it, but so much of my stuff goes there. A while ago I started using a gmail address, and set up what accounts I can through them. I don't know how difficult it would be to switch my email address with the bank, elec company, cable etc.

I'm gonna call them and find out.

7. I think that is why my friend is so hesitant ...but, she really throws me
when she talks about how good it is and it is the other stuff causing her trouble. I am explaining to her, NO it is the other way around, it is AOL that is causing her all her problems.

8. I agree with you AOL sucks...
I'll let you know what I find out about the email policy. Cuz I'm thinking you should be able to keep it through AIM or whatever it is that's just email without all the other crap.

9. sure
Lots of people. I even still have an account -- been a member for 15 years now. I have other email accounts, too, of course, but see no problem with hanging on to old friends that were made on AOL.

13. I still use it for my e-mail address
I started using it ages ago and it would be too difficult to stop. I work for a large NGO in Washington DC and my collegues around the world (literally in this case) have it as an alternate contact for me. So I keep it. Haven't had much difficulty with it at all.

14. Yeah, this guy:
http://idahobob.livejournal.com/profile

He's a nice guy, too, but I still don't get his reasoning for remaining on AOL.

He's discussed moving the mailing list (TaurList) to a forum, yet all the geeks on the list (including him) seem to only see the drawbacks to a message-board and none of the pros. So, we remain 'stuck' on AOL...

16. AOL just paid $315 million for Huffington Post
There must be a helluva lot of members still, to support that kind of purchase.
