new digital device question for any savvy people out there
I know nothing about the current wizardry.

To give you an idea of where I am: I use a computer, have a basic cell phone for emergencies, and take pictures with my 15-yr-old 35mm camera.

ok I'm fine with this.
but now the tape player in my 15 yr-old car broke, and on my short commute to work I have to listen to the radio - eck.

I want something that I can get internet with in my car.
But not installed in my car, cuz I'm not going to have it for long.

I would like, for example, to be able to listen to presstv in my car. Available on the Internet. and music, be able to get pandora.

What I have thot of - and don't know the pros and cons - is a laptop or a phone like a Blackberry I believe would accomplish what I want.

Are there other devices around that would fit the bill?
Price is definitely an object - I'd like to spend maybe $100, maybe a little more.
What is more important is ease of use - I asked my student and he was telling me about installing a "card" and other things I know not, and do not wish to know.

Can I do this very simply?

I am only one foot out of the dinasaur age when it comes to technology.

thank you for any ideas.

ellen

1. You could get a satellite radio subscription + an in-car radio
Edited on Mon Feb-21-11 07:25 AM by blogslut
XM/Sirius subscriptions start at $13.00 a month:

Then you could buy a compatible radio device (the one I am linking to costs $60.00) that mounts on your dash/plugs into your cigarette lighter:

3. Well, ultimately, all telcom providers are evil corporations
I don't really know much about whether or not you could use a wireless device or perhaps access the things you want through a cellular provider. Originally, I was going to suggest you buy a http://www.chumby.com">Chumby and get some small speakers but then I got to thinking about how you'd have to have a constant wireless connection and that would be difficult...

I suppose if you got one of those mifi devices, thus having your own portable wireless hotspot...

Shoot. I dunno.

4. I have an iPod
that I plug into a Belkin transmitter (plugs into cigarette lighter) and I play my music through the radio.

You, of course, have to load your tunes by way of computer, and depending on your computer and hard drive space, or lack of CD drive, that could be a problem.
