Rooting for John Hawkes of Winter's Bone...here's why...
I've seen Hawkes in about every role one could act in - comedy, drama, straight man, side kick - and he nails it in Winter's Bone. When I watched him act, I did not see an actor acting, but instead a man become the character he was portraying.

On top of that, for a person of Hawkes' physical stature to pull off a menacing character like he did shows true acting ability.

But more likely than not, Bale will win the Oscar (and frankly, I'm so sick of actors being giving plaudits for doing the "DeNiro" - going through a massive body transformation).

If Hollywood really gave a shit about its craft, it would give the award to Hawkes.

1. I'm rooting for him too. I love him as an actor and he played Teardrop beautifully.
His character wasn't a "character" like most; he was a man, and a completely believable, scary and sympathetic one all at the same time. Loved him. LOVE Geoffrey Rush but...

2. AGREED
Winter's Bone was my first Netflix film and Mr. Hawkes had me literally holding my breath when the cop had him pulled over!

3. I was expecting Sol Stern from Deadwood.
But he came across as a hard character. Very convincing.

If he doesn't get it, Al Swearengin is going to kick some ass.;)
