1. Musical Box performs that as one of its encore pieces (at least both times I saw them they did).

2. Leaving it out would be like someone doing a Skynyrd set minus "Free Bird"...
...it's as much of a "signature piece" as you can get.

3. Funny story on that. After "The Lamb" performance (full costumes, all slides from '74)
They asked what the audience wanted for an encore, and it was dead silent when someone yelled, "SUPPER'S READY".

The entire place exploded in laughter - including the band members.

4. Funny indeed
"We just performed the entire double-album "Lamb," how about a 23-minute encore?"

5. Well, curiously, they DID do the entire "Supper's Ready" after the "Selling England" concert.
And, of course, they ALWAYS do "The Musical Box" and "Watcher of the Skies". Long concert. Both times I saw them it was at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, PA - similar to the Lincoln Theater in DC. The Balcony seats are best - only 5 rows deep and steep enough that any seats are excellent. The theater is small enough that you can clearly make out the facial expressions of the band members without binoculars. Fucking great concerts.

For the record, Musical Box is the ONLY Genesis tribute band with full endorsement from all current and former (living) members of Genesis. I don't know about Anthony Phillips, he's the only dead one and he didn't return his calls. They've gotten costume and stage theatrical tips as well as all 1200 of the original slides used for "The Lamb". Although they TRY to use only vintage instruments and equipment (all corded, no wireless), I DID notice a small LCD screen lurking amongst the synthesizers on the "Selling England" tour.

6. If you watch the Phish clip I posted earlier today...
..."Watcher of the Skies" at the Genesis R&RHOF induction...the camera goes to Banks, Rutherford, Collins and Hackett...and the only one of the four who even remotely cracks a smile during the performance is Hackett. So "approved by Genesis" would carry considerable weight with me.

I think you have Anthony Phillips mixed up with Abe Vigoda, though...he's not dead yet.

7. Well, he was the original drummer. I thought he had passed away. My bad, I guess.
And Abe Vigoda is definitely not dead yet. He looked like he was one foot in the grave on Barney Miller.

8. No, Phillips was the original guitarist...
...alive, kicking, and much more prolific than anyone might suspect:

John Mayhew (27 March 1947 - 26 March 2009), the drummer on the "Tresspass" album, is the dead band member you're thinking of.

9. Okay, so it has been a while since I looked anything up on them.
I was a major Genesis geek in the late 70's. I sort of still am, but after wearing out three vinyl copies of The Lamb and trying to do the same with a CD set, I decided an iPod was a safer way to listen to their stuff.

10. Thanks, love Genesis
Especially from when Gabriel had his reverse-mohawk thing going on.
