3. I really dislike biscuits and gravy. And while I see the similarities now that you mention it |
|
this one had a lot of raisins, currants, sultanas and other stuff in it. Rye seeds too, I think.
Smothered it in butter. I thought it was great.

more of a fruitcake;-)
I made a plain soda bread last year - it was a cool experiment but I wasn't that impressed, I'll take my sourdough over the giant biscuit any day.
I don't like b and g either (HATE soggy bread), though everybody else in the house does, so when we have it I just eat the gravy thinned in a bowl and call it cream-of soup. I like butter on biscuits.

14. I'm Irish and here's my recipe that the women of my family have been making for, well, forever. |
|
4 cups flour 4 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 2 tbsp sugar 1 tbsp caraway seed 1 pt sour cream 1/2 cup milk 1 cup seedless raisins
Mix all together. Knead and put in a 9 inch iron frypan Bake one hour - first 15 min at 450 degrees, next 45 min at 350.
Even though my gran's and mum's cast iron is as smooth as silk, they always buttered and floured the interior of their pan before dumping the mix into it.
Good luck!
