I feel compelled to do things around the house even though I'm a double gimp
A right knee that screams if it's moved the wrong way, and which threatens to buckle. A left hip that's rent because (I believe) of favoring the right knee.

Things to do:

pick up the dry cleaning

grocery shopping

laundry (at least chonies and sheets)

make the bed

sweep the floors

clean the kitchen

How do I reconcile my need to do things with my need to sit still and try to mend a little?

2. Set priorities
I see six items on the list. Rank order them in term of need to be done today/this weekend, then promise yourself to do them in that order but stopping as soon as you feel the need.

In addition, pare down the scope of each to a bare minimum. Grocery shopping and cleaning the kitchen could use some limitations too -- for example, write down the list of groceries that you MUST have in order to get through the next week and set out to buy only those. If you can get to dry cleaner with minimal walking, pick it up.

Cleaning the kitchen: maybe clean the counter and stove top and dishes and ignore the rest. Making the bed? Eh. Unless the sheets are getting ready to walk out of the room on their own, let that one slide for a few more days. Ditto sweeping the floors. I realize that you have cat fur and other cat debris -- vacuum or sweep the worst areas and leave the rest for another day.

And lastly, if you had properly trained the fur beasts to do their share of household chores you wouldn't have this problem. :P
