Any bricklayers out there? |
|
Our house came with a bricked border around the landscaping beds in the front. I would like to do the same thing in the side yard. It is just two bricks high. How difficult is this? Would I just make sure it's level, sit the brick on the ground and mortar it to the next brick? Or is it more complicated than that? Does it need to sit in mortar on the bottom?

1. No, but I've seen it done. |

If your lowest course is on cement, you should mortar it down to hold it in place. Otherwise you need 6-8 inches of clean sand fill underneath it, but you can dry lay the first course, I think. Or you could just wing it. It's only two courses.

husband is a masonry contractor - he says if it needs to hold back soil or people standing on it may need rebar, but otherwise at least a 4 inch (concrete) footer
