3. Everyone on my contact list recieved an email "by me" which contained a link to a silver company. |
|
I think it was silver jewelry. The link contained at least one virus.

4. this has happened to me... |
|
or I should say happens once in a while - I get an email saying it is from someone who is one of my contacts - but it is not.
My sister just got one last week saying it was from one of our cousins but it was not - she quickly emailed everyone saying DON'T OPEN THAT EMAIL.
I don't know how the hell they get actual names from our contact list.
I never thought I was hacked though. Maybe I have been?
I hate these people who do this crap.

5. I had that happen on Hotmail |
|
I changed my password.
Nary a problem since then.
Might be worth a try.

Gmail, Hotmail, a new Yahoo account. Mail.com has treated me reasonably well.
Or just to infuriate any techie oriented people in your life, a free AOL email. Ha.

13. the same thing happened to my father-in-law |
|
No virus on his computer, the only thing we could figure out was someone hacking in. He's 89, didn't want a new email account, so my BIL just changed the password. No problem since then.

Hasn't been hacked yet (I regularly change passwords), and if you have a mobile phone you can use their 2-step password verification procedure. http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/advanced-sign-in-security-for-your.html

Never a problem, and it shows you how much spam has been snagged before it gets to your inbox--always an impressive amount.

If you change your password on the yahoo account you'll probably be fine.
But gmail has much better features than yahoo anyway.

12. I have two yahoo and one hotmail. I did this at first to always |
|
have an email account to use if I have too much spam in one and wanted to abandon it. So I have one to use for any time I have to enter it on a website because I worry that I may be spammed to death. I have one for personal friends, and one for political info and friends.
I hate the hotmail, like the yahoos. But hell, they all work for me and have for several years. And free is free.

14. does Yahoo sell our information? |
|
I just had a conversation with someone about this thread and she said Yahoo sells your information to hackers and if you personalize your content (which I do on their "My Yahoo" page, the hackers target you regarding what sites you have listed on your front page.
I didn't argue with her because I honestly don't know. I haven't heard this before and I have been using Yahoo and Yahoo mail since the turn of the century more or less.
I find it hard to believe that because I have chosen, for example "Reuters News" that someone would maliciously target me (I believe ADVERTISERS will target me for that, but not "hackers") Maybe that's what she meant...... but she is adamant about not using Yahoo....
what'd'ya think? hackers or just annoying advertisers?
