Crossposting from C&B cuz things go faster here - re: bleu cheese salad dressing |
|
I can't seem to find one that I'm satisfied with. When I go to a restaurant and have a salad with bleu cheese dressing, I always like it. But when I make one at home, it's never the same.
I've tried Marie's, Bob's and a few other misc, but none hit the spot.
Suggestions?

cup of buttermilk (or 1 Tablespoon lemon/lime/or vinegar plus milk to make a cup - let sit for 5 to 10 minutes) cup of mayo tsp salt tsp dried parsley (or not for blue cheese?) 1/4 tsp pepper tiny bit (less than 1/8 tsp) onion powder even less garlic powder touch of chives, dill
maybe a 1/4 cup of crumbled cheese? - to taste
mix/shake well and chill for an hour at least

2. Yeah, I've made some before from scratch, it was good |
|
but I'm still looking for a bottled brand to keep around for when I'm ... ah... lazy, lol. I mean, for when I'm trapped in front of the computer watching baby eagles. :hi:
Thanks for the recipe, I'll try it after the birds have left the nest. :D

3. compromise and buy a bottled base and a chunk of cheese |
|
mix when you want or dump altogether in another container?
I'm totally into the lazy but have gotten where I can't stand manufactured corn syrup gel, er I mean salad dressing, so I make up a batch of this and a garlicky Italian once a week or so to keep in the fridge.

5. Someone recommended Renée's Pear & Blue Cheese vinaigrette salad dressing to me last |
|
week. I don't know if you get her stuff in the grocery stores in the USA but if you do you would find it in a refrigerator shelf near the vegetables. Their dressings are yummy but must be kept refrigerated. I have tried some of her other dressings which are yummy and well worth the price. http://www.renees.com/products_vin_Pear_Blue_Cheese.asp#N

7. A simple one I used to make |
|
bleu cheese buttermilk mayonnaise worchester sauce
Sorry, I don't measure you'll have to do it by feel.
I think I used to add a squirt of lemon juice if I had a lemon.

8. The best bleu cheese dressing that I ever had was at... |
|
Ponderosa Steakhouse. They used to sell it in the bottle and gallon jugs. I always bought the jug. I haven't had it in years because we don't have a Ponderosa in my burg any longer.
