This may not seem like a big deal to those of you who live in urban areas, but in a place like this it's significant.

A few days ago a pawn shop in suburban Little Rock (not here) was robbed, and the owner murdered, and the store burned.

Today, our neighbors from two doors down were arrested for Capital Murder. Their kids play over here, and mine goes over there.

I can't believe they've been right under our nose this whole time. DHS took the kids as soon as they got off the bus. The sheriff from the county where the murder occurred was executing a search warrant just before dusk while the neighborhood looked on.

I always avoided them - I got an odd feeling from them. I guess I know why.

1. My dear Choral Scholar...
How scary for you!

I always hear about stuff like this, and of course there are neighbors. You never think it could be someone you know...

:scared:

"I guess I know why."

"My son plays there all the time"....

Why did/would you ever let your child play someplace that you say you always avoided?

8. That caught my eye, too.
When I was growing up, I had a friend from a sketchy family/household. My mom let me play with her, but I had to stay outside.

11. Other than just the looks of the dad,
there wasn't anything sketchy about the place. It wasn't a dump. In fact, it was a newer house than ours. They had a pool and a swingset. Like I said, though, I should have trusted my instincts.

12. Yeah, that's how it was with the family my mom wouldn't let me in the house of.
Nice lower-middle-class house on a busy street with involved neighbors, but that house was off-limits.

10. It wasn't like I avoided them because I thought they were dangerous
I avoided them because I didn't particularly like them. I guess I should have trusted my instincts.

7. Moved from NYC to a small town and the murder rate here is
much higher. The local cops wear thick vests all the time.

Wondering if your neighbors had an issue with the pawn shop. Desperate people do desperate things.

13. This is true.
By all accounts, the pawn shop owner was a real 'salt of the earth' type guy. I can't fathom what kind of situation would cause them to shoot the guy and then burn his place the hell down.

9. Having murderers next door would be a big deal any place in my book. I sure didn't
like the looks of the guy.
