Need some ideas for healthy, pre-made snacks.
Easy things which you can buy in the grocery store (aside from fruit), which are low in quick carbs and higher in complex carbs but teenagers and husband will like. Looks as if I'm going to get that lumbar fusion after all and am trying to plan ahead.

Thanks for your help.

1. Nuts and seeds
They come with all kinds of coatings now. Pumpkin seeds, pistachios and almonds are my guys favorites, keeps him away from the BBQ chips. Good luck with your lumbar fusion, I gather you are in a lot of pain to want to go through with that.

3. Thanks for the suggestions...
and yes, it's quite painful. Went through PT all last summer and it worked well for awhile, but this time the numbness is so severe that the neuro wants to go ahead and do a 4-level fusion. I've already had 3-level cervical fusion but lumbar takes a bit longer to recuperate. Am literally dragging my leg and this came on more suddenly than last time. :(

7. I know you are supplementing with cal, mag, zinc and vit c
So I won't remind you. Yes, that sounds rough. Also consider rice and popcorn cakes as carriers for toppings.

2. Whole-grain crackers (like Triscuit) and pre-cut veggies with cheese, hummus and salsa.

4. Thanks, they love Triscuits.
Our oldest dd knows how to make hummus and fresh guac now, so that will help. Keep it coming!

9. canned refried beans (heresy for me), salsa and corn chips
or flour tortillas for burritos (pre-grated cheese if they won't eat it all without using the beans too)

plain yogurt with frozen fruit or tzaziki (so easy and good with whole wheat pitas or even whole wheat flour tortillas) (yogurt, garlic, a thin sliced/chopped cucumber peeled and seeded if you feel like it, a little lemon juice, salt and olive oil if using the non-fat yogurt) - make a big bowl of either and watch it disappear

real beef jerky (or venison, chicken, turkey) is good, but very hard to find (easy to make, though if you have the time/inclination)

triscuits or other whole grain carrier and cheese/cream cheese or even pre-made spreads/dips

old standbys like celery and PB or cream cheese

veggies and dip (available already cut and ready in most stores now)

or just don't worry about it - a few weeks of garbage while you recover isn't going to hurt the teens. although the husband might be a different story;-)

good luck!
