1. Last night one of those retro channels was showing "Father's Little Dividend"
With her and Spencer Tracy. I had forgotten how good she was in lighter fare, and OMG! How did those women get those TINY little waists???

3. *Spoiler*? ( I'm not sure whether or not to say spoiler for movies
that date back but just in case, I wanted to). A lot of people know her only as an incredibly beautiful actress. She was so much more... her amazing amount of work concerning AIDS (before any celebrity would touch the subject); putting everything she had into her film roles; treating cast, crew, and everyone else on her sets with true loving kindness. Without question, my favorite movie of her's it GIANT. In 1956, this film addressed sexism, racism, and the major issue of class. The character Liz played was the one who brought these subjects to the fore. IMO, it was acting at its best. Having said that, from what I've heard and read, Liz felt the same way the character felt. Even though she was 79 and has such horrible health issues her entire life, I'm very, very saddened regarding her not being on Planet Earth anymore.

4. She also had a snarky sense of humor.
One time she was wearing one of her bigass diamond rings. Princess Margaret was present and made a snide remark about the ring being vulgar (like you should talk, Mags). Liz offered to let HRH try on the ring. She did and got the "Ooooo, sparkly" look. Liz went in for the kill, "Not quite so vulgar now, mum?"

Rest in peace, Liz. You were a Dame.

5. She had so many closeted friends
Aside from Rock Hudson, there was Roddy McDowell, Montgomery Clift and Malcolm Forbes to name a few. And I think James Dean was probably bisexual as well, and Liz loved him.

In fact, when Clift got into a car accident, Liz was on the scene keeping the press away by swearing at them like a sailor. She was a good friend, very protective and very loyal. I'm so glad she founded AmFar, so glad she forced Ronnie to address AIDS. For all her great movies, that's what I'll always remember her for. All of us who lost friends and lovers in the 80s are eternally grateful, and we hope she has peace and no more pain.

6. It would have been nice to see her in a light comedy role as her swan song;
her last theatrical film was 'The Flintstones' (mainly a bit part); her last major role was the TV movie 'These Old Broads' which didn't give her much to work with.

7. It sounds like you'd really like "Between Friends".
It's not available on Netflix, but Amazon has it. It's a drama, but with Liz (who stole the movie) & Carol Burnette in it, there are lots of snarky moments.

Here's one viewer's review:

This movie, also released by HBO as "Between Friends" is about two recently divorced women who must not only cope with the loneliness, but also with their self-worth; as both their husbands leave them for other women. Carol Burnett plays Mary Castelli, a real estate woman who fills her loneliness through sexual permiscuity and married men, while Deborah Shapiro, played brilliantly by Elizabeth Taylor, sees a middle-aged, paunchy business man who is grufty and constantly after her to get married, even though the two are not in love with each other.

For those fans of Carol Burnett who were used to her comedy show, this portrayal is a departure from the usual Carol even though one might recognize her comedy in a few lines here and there. Carol is also skilled in playing a personage that you learn to feel sorry for as she has been so wounded by her husband's leaving.

The magic moments of the film are the results of a bonding between Mary Castelli and Deborah. I've watched the film many times and always come back to it. It is not for younger audiences as there are sexual references and language. Without giving away the plot, I would highly recommend it. It is shot in Toronto, Canada, but passes for New York City. Great shots of Union Station!

There is a happy-ending after a climax of life-changing events, realisations and just plain great acting!
