1. I like her a lot. More than 15 minutes but not immortal.
I bought and like her first album. Terrific voice and some decent song choices, but so far she seems not to be putting it out there in her genre or working like crazy, like, say, Joss Stone does. Maybe I'm missing it,but if I am it supports the theory.

4. I hear her songs pretty frequently on a local station here in Maryland
But I don't know how well she gets out there on the mainstream stations. The couple votes for "never heard of her" here may back up your theory

3. personally, I think she's FAR better than Wiinehouse
Edited on Mon Apr-11-11 09:46 AM by charlie and algernon
But that may be from having to listen to Winehouse's "Rehab" 6 times a day at work over the summer of 2007 and now loathe ANYTHING associated with her.

5. I wanna say 'never heard of her', but I use iTunes.
Since I'm pretty sure she doesn't sing Death Metal, Doom Metal, Thrash Metal, Hair Metal, or Post Metal, I've never clicked on her stuff.

She any good?

17. I love her...
...I just can't figure out why her videos are always mediocre and have her sitting down. Sure, she's a chubby girl, but if they'd dress her appropriately, a storyline video would be great! Oh, but I forgot, Americans don't like it when the chubby girl is the focus of ANYTHING.

29. I love her sound too

I like her looks, I like her voice. I think she's got the whole package.

If you really listen, this girl is unique. Her voice is just beautiful.

10. Other
I couldn't say if she's going to be one of the all-time greats, as she's just gotten started. I would like to think that she would be, for one reason and one reason only:

SHE DOES NOT USE AUTOTUNE and does not sound like a hyperventilating oversexed chipmunk.

Therefore: SHE IS AN EFFIN' MUSICAL GODDESS IMO.

Seriously, I like her a lot. She can sing, she's not "a body in a skimpy outfit gyrating while lipsynching" and that alone puts her head and shoulders above the dreck that passes for top 40 these days. More power to her. :headbang:

11. Requisite other
Her latest album sounds great. If she can keep generating great material and adapt with the times there's no reason she shouldn't remain a relevant performer.

12. Put me down for "meh".
Her voice is OK, but the songs I listened to on YouTube are repetitive and boring.

23. Oh damn. You're right.
And not just that cool "push past the third into the fourth" sharp. She is really livin' past the line there.

I do like that squeak thing she does at the beginning of certain syllables, but it seems affected and more predictable than cute after a while.

Cute girl and refreshingly thicker than a stick. I'd like to hear her sing something quiet, see if there's some soul there behind all that power.

24. That rapid overshooting vibrato kind of became the norm among some...
R&B singers of the past decade. (for some reason)

She could probably sing in tune if she wanted, but unfortunately it seems like she's trying to cop an irritating popular style rather than finding something unique.
That's just one of the hazards of youth.

I agree that the interpretation of a ballad exposes the level of artistic development in a musician.
There is no place to hide.

22. "Rolling in the Deep"
Yes, indeed, my most-often played YouTube vid lately.

I love her. Got turned on to her by a guy I know who knows some stuff I've been through lately, and I think she has absolutely read my mind, and her voice is incredible, IMO. Those lyrics, that tune, the atmosphere of the video - mmmm-hmmmm.
