Help! Need assistance with Outlook 2007. |
|
Yeah yeah, I hate using it too... but like most users of MS products; all of our stuff is in their format and we're scared shitless to change things mid-stream.
Okay, here's the situation... my boss' laptop password changed last week and I had to re-install Windows 7 to get back into it. It was a bit of a PITA. Still not sure why the password changed.
The old Windows installation was still on it, and all the old files were still there. We used Carbonite for backup, but fortunately it wasn't necessary.
Anyway, I copied over the old email files, the PST files, from the old Windows directory to the new one, and told Outlook to open them up. All the old emails were in there; well and good.
However, I can't seem to find the "Sent" items at all. Nothing. The only thing in the "Sent" folder are the email she's sent in the past couple of days.
So where the heck are all the "Sent" emails???
I tried looking on the Windows help website; it's like pulling teeth. Trying to find where the "Sent" folder is stored was impossible; I think (but don't know for sure) that sent emails are stored in the same file as received emails. Or maybe not!
So how do I fix this so she can view her (important) business emails? :banghead:
If it helps, we use the IMAP email system. "Sent" items are saved locally.

1. Outlook stores it's data in the .pst file ... |
|
If you have other subdirectories in Outlook with data, then all the files are there. You may want to try reinstalling the .pst file. Else, download it from Carbonite. Either way, you'll lose any new emails since the change.

5. It's been a multi-day mess, but I finally found them. |
|
Here was the problem.
Well, problems...
1) We changed hosting companies back in November.
2) Then we changed hosting companies back in December.
3) We have like 8 email addresses.
4) We have two computers using Outlook.
5) Her laptop is new-ish, and had emails imported from the old one.
So we had basically a shitload of *.pst files on 3 directories in two computers, plus a couple of memory sticks. Plus the ones I restored from Carbonite. And I'm pretty sure there were a couple of turtledoves in there someplace, too.
But seriously, between the current ones, the backup ones, the locked originals, and the memory sticks I was flailing around between about 25 or 30 PST files in three directories.
Not to mention that, apparently, the one called "Outlook.pst" is pretty important.
But, dammit, I found them. Not only that, but the emails that have been missing for all of November (2nd hosting company). Hell, I've got emails going back to 2005 now!
:woohoo:
Thanks!

She'd panic! She swears that if women designed computers the world would be better off.
