Playing with a new camera ... Koi getting a snack in slow-motion (youtube-link.)

I just got it yesterday and played around with the high-speed feature later today. Still experimenting, so this might not be as good as of yet, but it looks nifty. That is Shamu, my very first Koi I got over ten years ago, having his snack:

;) Shamu was about 4 inches tall when I got him. He has quite grown since then, and still he's the smallest of all. The biggest one is around 20 - 23 inches.

7. LOL!

You know that two of the Kois I have I got from the floor of a pet shop? They're no goldfish. They jump out of any container if they don't like it. And that's what they did in the pet shop - jumping out.

Pond design is a great job and very creative. And whoever thinks it's just 'putting a hole in the ground filling it with water' is definitely wrong. :hi:

8. For those of us who are gear-heads,

what did you shoot this with?

9. A very small, compact Casio Exilim ZR-100.

Very nifty, very handy. Up to 1000 fps (but then the video is way too tiny.) 30fps - 240 fps video mode, so you can shoot normal motion and slow-motion in one. HD in full resolution, too. Great for snapshots. Of course, picture quality doesn't compare to my Nikon, but it has HDR settings which are fun to play with.

10. That is really interesting.

I have a couple of Canon SLRs that will do high def video, but I think only at normal speeds. I had no idea that there was a product at consumer prices that would do seriously higher fps rates.

Your koi video, btw, does a great job of demonstrating the capability.

12. Don't get me wrong, HD def is only at normal speed.

240 fps is at 423 x 320, but for the price you can't really complain and it will work fine with posting on youtube. It does have a high-speed camera function, capturing 30 pics a second at a 10 MP resolution - great for action shots.

As I said, it doesn't compare with my Nikon, but I already love it. And here's the reason why I got it. Encountered this a few months ago, which was done with the old model. Just couldn't find any locally until recently. Check it out, pretty cool:

As you say, for the price, a wonderful capability. And, I might add, one which I do not currently have.

I've got the glass, I've got the bodies. And all the other stuff. But _this_ I do not have.

16. Yes, for the price, the only high-speed camera to carry around in your pocket,

were I often don't carry my Nikon with the 70 - 300mm lens around because it's quite chunky, but I should ... There's always something to capture. ;)

My eye? Thank you, but even I once - ages ago in the analog era - was a professional photographer, I don't think it's something miraculous or - even worse - something only a few people have. Start shooting what you like and how you see it. You may have the eye for something I don't have. So to speak, a great landscape photographer might not do well with portraits. A sports photographer might not do well with fashion. (I know, I was in the fashion business and hated it. I sucked at any sport photography, because I wasn't interested in it.) Go with the stuff you really like and your eye will follow and then probably open up other venues to take on. There's no failure; I've seen people equipped with the nicest stuff shooting the ugliest pics I've ever seen.

Then I've seen people with cellphones capturing moments perfectly.

I just bought a new camera that has slow-mo video. Been so busy experimenting with settings for the best image quality, I forgot. I'll have to try it this evening. I don't have fish, but I guess a lamp will work. ;)

I really just started to try it today, and this is the second one. First one (I won't upload) was my mom walking by, turning her head and looking into the camera, then turning her head away again. I put the Beatles' 'Yesterday' song behind it and told her that this will be her (eventual) funeral video.

She thought it was hilarious. ;)
